My dishes are making me sad... there are so many dirty that it's daunting and depressing... yet at the same time i wish that they were done, so that's making me depressed as well... it's a vicious cycle. Any ideas?

Get up off your butt and do the dishes. You will feel better when they are done and you'll have clean dishes to eat from.

My $ .02..
Doing certain kinds of dishes at a time sounds like a great idea (all the glasses, then all the silverware, then all the bowls, then all the plates, etc). Something that I do when I have to clean anywhere in the house is put on an audiobook (I like mysteries)! Public libraries often have *lots* of audiobooks, and a local supermarket (Safeway) even has them available for rent. Maybe your town has something similar.? Listening to the book gets your mind distracted, and as long as you're hands are free while you're listening, why not use them to get the chores done. ^_^

Listen to music while you do the dishes and think of the fact that you or anyone else will become sick through not washing dishes.Invest in a washdisher next time. First wash the glassesso they become sparkling clean then the cutlery then the last lot of dirty dishes which includesplates and other dishes.

Why don't you stand outside and look at the people passing by and then ask one of them to do your dishes. Ofcourse, you would have to pay them. In my town, all you have to do is go uptown and find a person and they will do anything in exchange for some drugs. SERIOUSLY!!
Or: Like others said before invest in a dishwasher or use plastic mugs, plates, forks, spoons.................

If a chore like doing the dishes makes you this depressed and overwhelmed, then perhaps you are suffering from depression. See a psychiatrist and get an evaluation of your thoughts and feelings. Help is available.

just do a few every night til they're done. decide to do all the plates one night, then glasses the next, or something like that. then after they're finished, keep up with them. do them every night, and it won't take that long.

Maybe you should invest in a dishwasher.
Or, try paper plates!
