Methanogenic bacteria in an anaerobic environment cause the breakdown of solid matter into methane, carbon dioxide and water. This works better at 37 degrees centigrade. It is important that the feed rate is the same as the bleed rate - in order to feed with on litre of undigested matter, it is necessary to remove 1 litre of digested matter. Keep the digester mixing, and have somewhere to store the gas evolved. See following link:

Bacteria that occur naturally in low concentrations are highly concentrated in warm anearobic conditions, eat the organic matter and release gas which can be burnt to keep the digester plant warm and to generate electricity.
