I have a 3 going on 4 month old Miniture Schnauzer. I have been feeding him Purina One (puppy chow). Is this good food or should go back to the Eukanuba (puppy small breed). The dog is not chooses he eats what ever is in front of him. I figured that I see what some of you guys think. Thanks for any advise you can give me.

Here's the 2006 list from the Whole Dog Journal. These are highest quality foods. Most of these are not carried at large chain stores but you can usually find them at small pet stores, feed and grain stores, etc.

Purina makes very poor food so stick it out with Eukanuba....which still isn't that great.

The best is Innova

and

California Natural
Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul
Life's abundance

Of course if you can only go to a chain store (not feed store or online..) Natural Balance is the best.

or raw fed

I do warn you....any food with a commercial is horrible (with Iams being an exception...it is OK) Purina makes one OK one and that is ONE.

this includes

Science Diet (over priced poison)
kibbles and Bits (food coloring.....)
Beniful (Might as well give your dog some arsenic)
Pedigree (Yeah like breeders would recommend a dog food made by a candy company...my grandpa's dog was said to have died because of this and Alpo.)
Alpo (stomach disease in a bag.)

Also if its not brand named....its even WORSE!

The best of the best foods are found in feed stores (and usually only in feed stores) The first five ingredients should be meat....

Good Rule of thumb if it comes from the grocery store it is not good!! Grocery store pet food is like feeding your kids burger King everyday!! The best food on the market right now are Nutro, Avodrem. Natures Receipt and I also like Royal Caine!! I have take animal nutrition classes!! By products are bad!! Look at the lable by products are what you would not eat why feed it to your pet!! Corn Gluten is okay but corn is not! Causes allergies! Go the the local pet store and they can help you!! Good luck and good for you wanting to feed your pet the best!!

They're both good dog foods. My personal choice is Science Diet Canine Growth (which is for puppies) and I get the small bites, which are made for smaller breeds. I've never gone wrong with Science Diet. My dogs have no since grown, and I've got them on Science Diet Canine Maintenance (small bites of course). But this is just my opinion. I'm glad you're willing to give your puppy a quality dog food. Best of luck to you.

My niece just got a puppy and they are feeding it Purina and let me tell you, when this little dog gets gas...WOW. It smells like a thousand skunks just sprayed you. This is a teeny little 3 pound Boston Terrier, and the vet blamed the food. My dog is 12 years old, and my mother in law's dog is almost 5, and both have eaten Iams since puppyhood and are both healthy and energetic dogs.

If you can afford it, feed the pup Iams. Its the best on the market. Check the ingredients for nutrients and vitamins.

If Iams is too expensive, which it is for me, I use Purina Puppy Chow Healthy Morsels. Its easy for the pup to digest and has all the vitamins and minerals they need.

Purina puppy chow. The thing to do is read the ingredients in the products you see in the stores. If the first ingredient is corn or any grain product you don't want it. Grains cause flatulence and nobody likes that
