I have to do this project in my italian 4 class on Italy. I have to pick a region of Italy, describe its capitol city, and make a 5 course menu (appetizer, pasta/salad, main dish, fruits/vegetables, and a dessert) of food thats traditionally found in that region.

Does anyone have any suggestions of a beautiful region of Italy that has amazing food? Thanks so much

You should make 20 course menus (one of each Italian regions) since al of them have its own peculiarity and are worthy with being better known.
Since I'm living in Tuscany I can give support to my region.
You'll have for sure tons of websites about Florence (capital of the region) and all other sites and then I will over fly on it (just in case here is a good link http://www.turismo.toscana.it/new/index.html )

As to cooking we'll be embarassed by how many traditional dishes can be presented by my region.
Here is a link with recipes http://www.artofcookery.com/
My suggestions are:
Appetizers - Crostini di fegato , Fettunta.
First Courses - Ribollita, Panzanella, Pappa al pomodoro.
Main Courses - Bistecca, Trippa alla Fiorentina - Fegatelli (meat)
or Baccalà (Fish)
Vegetables - Fagioli all'olio , fagioli all'uccelletto
Dessert - Tiramisù , Cenci e Castagnaccio.
Wine - Chianti Classico

Pls feel free to email me if you need for recipes in Italian,as well as other descriptions: I can also provide you sites in Italian.

umbria is a beautiful region! if you head to a bookstore, you should be able to find not only a book to describe the region, but also the food. im sure if you look online you can find it too. at half price books, i actually picked up an Umbria cookbook with all the traditional fare that is cooked. as long as you dont need to actually prepare it, it should be fairly easy to find what you are looking for online or at a bookstore. just bring a pad and paper to the store so you wont have to buy the book, unless you want to!

You could probably do this report on any region in Italy, they're all beautiful and they all have cuisines unique to the region. That said, La Toscana (Tuscany) is famous for its amazing cities (Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, etc), its beautiful countryside (the Chianti area, among others) and its cuisine.

Sorry I cant be much of a help, but the only real Italian food I have ever had was made by our foreign exchange student from Milan. He was fairly wealthy and didn't know how to cook at all so the only thing we had was what was easy enough for him top make.
Spaghetti
and Brusketta, but I don't know how to spell it ... I know that didn't help but..
You can go on Wikipedia and search Italian food then click on a region.

We lived in Sardinia for two years. The island is beautiful!! We ate dinner with an Italian family we knew there..She served cheese, salami, bread and bruschetta for the antipasta.. (first course). Second course was Lasagna, third course was meat and potato's..For dessert we had fritella...Which is deep fried ropes of dough they serve with sugar..They only make it around Carnivale time....Another good dessert from that region is Panacotta....(cooked cream)...very good!!
Hope this helps..
