First you have to prove that He exists.

I can prove it wasn't.

There's a book out called "Misqoting Jesus". (Holy wow, I'm pushing this book lately) It contains a lot of facts gathered by a professor of Christian theology at the University of North Carolina, or somewhere like that. He has studied ancient manuscripts, like the Codex Vaticanus or the Codex Sainiticus, and found them not to be in accordance with the English Bible. Mostly it was mistakes made by illiterate scribes, but some were intentional. Read it, and make up your own mind.

Well, its pretty obvious to see that God didn't write the Bible since the "Books" of the Bible were not decided upon and put together until the Laodacian Council in 360 AD (300+ years after the crucifixtion of Jesus). Many writings were rejected by the Council and not placed in the Christian Bible (The Old Testament is a rearranged version of the Jewish Septugant with a few "Books" missing). Some of the non-biblical texts, which were considered sacred years before the Council was convened, can be found in the Dead Sea scrolls and Nag Hammadi Codicies.

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and nonbelieving scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive study, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."

There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

Prove that God wrote the bible? That's just silly. Prove that God exists, ok, a single supernatural being that can only do good and can never do harm. He is powerful and kind, controls all things by his own means, and never lets error slip into his creation. He gives human beings free will to do as they please, including making errors, but is always there as a constant principle of goodness and perfection so that humanity will never be at a loss for a goal or proper vision of how to live their life.

Does that prove it for you? Because if a definition won't work, I'm not sure what will. Try meditating or something.

A lot of Christian answers, and all of them boil down to two or three arguments.

1: That the Bible was not written by God. No kidding. So prove that the Bible is the Word of God.
2: Appeal to emotion.
3: Appeal to the majority.

None of these answers the question. They might as well be saying "Because it is!"

Color me surprised.

God didn't write the Bible, Christian's believe men wrote who were inspired by God. However, the Bible's purpose is to testify of Jesus. Reading it for any other purpose is to take it out of context. Taken out of context any writting will lead to false interpretations. It is the testimony of Jesus that is inspired, not mere compilation of historical facts. Othwise, it may infact be plagerism; Moses wrote the book of Job but certainly was not a contemparary of Job.

?? God didn't write the Bible. (Many) people wrote the Bible. There are *portions* of the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) that tradition states was dictated to Moses by God, but I don't think anyone suggests that God dictated Paul's letters to the various churches. I write a sermon every week. Many of my sermons contain inspiration by God, but that does not mean that God writes my sermons (wish it were true, I wouldn't spend days writing them!)

It can't be done. I have heard priests read from the Bible. They close the book and say, "The word of the Lord" and everyone at Mass replies "Thanks be to God". I think that's a pretty fair indication that the Bible is promoted as the word of God, and I have seen answers from people here that have said that God wrote the Bible.

That's really one of the problems with the Bible. Neither God nor Jesus wrote anything themselves. Not one word. It would have been nice if Jesus had actually written something himself. Everyone else seemed capable of doing so.
