I would like to know as well. My son is 16 months and still on the bottle. I usually give him only water from the bottle. The bottle seems to be more like a comfort to him than anything else. My pediatrician warned me that if I didn't gt him off the bottle between 12 and 15 months it would be more difficult. He drinks his milk and juice from a sippy cup but still longs for his bottle even if there's nothing in it.

Are you trying to wean to sippy cups? If so try juice in the cup.. once he has learned that, then just start putting milk in the sippy cup.. You can do the same with a straw... If you are wanting to try a regular cup.. You're very brave... I am not sure about regular cups.. But I know 4 year olds still using some form of a sippy cup.. I know as an adult I still spill sometimes Lol..
My daughter was off the bottle at 12 months.. so give it a try.. If you make the sippy cup a treat for him he should have no problem giving up the bottle.

While pediatricians recommend that you wean from the bottle at age 1, the average age is several months later, so don't sweat it too much.
Try putting the good stuff (milk, juice) in a sippy or cup with a straw and only water in the bottle. Juice is a pretty good incentive to use a sippy! Also, sippies vary a lot on how easy they are to get fluid from. Gerber makes a starter cup with two handles and a soft rubber spout. Much more comfortable!

At this age your son should be getting 80% or more of his nutrition from food not milk. The trick we used with our son who is 16 months and hasn't had a bottle since he was 11 months old was to only put water in his bottle. Show him that his milk and juice is in his big boy cup. He will realize that he wants his milk or juice more than he wants his bottle and will pretty much wean himself.

Go cold turkey. He will take maybe three days to realize if he wants that milk, he's got to use that cup. My cousin did this to her son at this age, and that's how long it took him. He won't die from no milk for three days or so. I have already trained my 8 month old to the cup. I started wtih his afternoon between-meals bottle, and I simply refused to give him a bottle, it was the cup or nothing till dinner, his choice. It took him a week of getting more and more willing to now take the cup no problem and suck it dry.

my son for the longest time wouldn't budge, then we tried the nuby soft spout sippies from walmart. We started with using it for one feeding (he has milk 3x a day), then eventually it replaced all three. He used those for a few months until he saw his cousin drinking out of a regular hard sippy cup-now he refuses the nuby because he wants to be like him. I think my nephew had the bottle until he was 18 months old, every kid is different. Good luck!

My son is 16 months old and I tried to wean him at 15 months and it didn't work-----I had to make him go cold turkey. It took all of two days--once he didn't see any more bottles, he was fine. HIde all of the bottles!!! Remember, they eat more solids now, so they will actually drink less so don't worry too much about that. Plus, when he gets thirsty enough, he will drink.
