My fiance and I both want to lose weight, but we have such radically different styles of doing so that we're failing miserably.

He is a meat&potatoes kind of guy. He likes to work hard, play hard, and eat well. His ideal weight loss plan would be to eat smaller portions of the same foods (steak & potatoes) and exercise hard with a buddy to keep up the motivation.

I'm not in the least athletic, and I despise feeling hungry. My ideal weight loss plan would be to eat plenty, but healthier, lower calorie foods such as salads and vegetables, limiting my red meats, while working out a low-impact, mild exercise plan like frequent walking, parking further from the door, etc. I also don't like exercising with a friend, I find it easier to do alone.

Living, eating, and working together, how can we find a solution we both can live with? He won't eat more veggies, and due to joint problems I can't run with him. He doesn't have a buddy who has any inclination to do so, either. Ideas?

I'd love to see any further ideas on this. We're not interested in taking pills or weight loss medicines; and unfortunately I can't ride a bike due to my knee problem. The suggestion of eating similar but seperate foods is good, but we are still looking for more ideas if anyone has any!

Unfortunately finding diets to meet both of your needs are going to be difficult, but it's do-able, just takes a little more careful planning. If he won't eat more veggies there is no reason why you have to cut them out. For instance your making a steak dinner for him, why can't you take some steak and cut them into strips and add to a salad. He gets what he is looking for and you get the veggies and protein that you need only the meat can be in smaller portions. As far as the excising, you both can try walking together in the evening. This allows some quality time between the two of you or you both can slap on head phones and just have quiet time between the two of you. You will have to take in consideration of each other. However, excising separately does allow you to have "me" time which is important to all of us. I hope this helps a little.

Since you are both different, you will need seperate weight loss plans.

For you, it sounds like "volumetrics" would work. Basically, it's substituting high fiber/water content and low calorie choices for denser foods. It helps you feel full while eating less.

Example substitutions:
1.5 cups spinach as a side dish instead of a baked potato
veggie spaghetti instead of pasta
Beef and barley soup instead of a steak
etc

As for exercise, walk 60 minutes every day and you will have the same benefit as your husband's jogs. The key is to be consistant. The only effective exercise is the type you'll do every day. You can even break it up and walk 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes after work.

At any rate, good luck!

I would suggest an all natural cleansing, replenishing, rejuvenating system that has a side benefit of safe weight loss.

I to am a meat and potatoes kind of person. I did not have to change all of that with this program to have great results.
