diet and exercise.

preforming certain exercises does not have a localized effect on fat stores..

depending on your level of fitness the fastest way to great abs along with a sound diet is to run sprints. they elevate the resting metabolic rate for hours after the training session and they also cause in increase in human growth hormone secretion which is the most powerful fat burning hormone that the human body performs.

ever see a fat sprinter?

I've had great success with a 7 minute workout...really! The idea of this is to do three abdominal exercises in quick succession for a full 7 minutes. Choose three ab exercises you don't mind doing...ie crunches, swiss ball crunches, floor to sitting and back etc. Do one exercise in quick succession until the burn stage (you feel muscles burning and can't possibly do another set), DO NOT count the number of each exercise that you do (ie 12 situps, 25 crunches etc) this doesn't matter. Once you get to the burn stage of one exercise quickly switch to the next and again once at the burn stage to the next. Do this for the full 7 minute period...change exercises each time you get fatigued with it.

Once the full 7 minutes is completed (use a timer for accuracy), you drink nothing but water for the next 40 minutes. Then you eat a meal that offers protein, carbs etc.

Two weeks of this routine placed me in a position where I had a very high level of energy and my stomach flattened and firmed noticeably. The idea behind this is to increase the body's metabolism and the 40 minute wait time encourages the body to burn calories and fat...the amount of calories burned with any workout lasts only about 40 minutes therefore eating a healthy meal at exactly 40 minutes after this work out extends the caloric/fat burn longer than average thus producing results more quickly.

Of all the exercise programs I've done thus far, this one was the most effective and the most addictive :) and took no time at all to carry out every day.

Good luck

Use negative resistance, and awesome one is the leg throws where your workout partner stands with his/her legs shoulder width apart and you raise your legs for them to throw, do sets alternating left, middle, right. That one works really well, but make sure your diet matches, and then use cardio to burn general fat. Also use elevated crunch reaches where you lay down with your feet up on something and put your hands over your head then stretch to your toes, then back. Those will be an excellent way to a nice stomach
