It's probably a cheap iron or it's too hot and is burning your hair

First off, you need a good straightner. I LOVE the CHI flat iron. It is ceramic and that is less damaging to the hair. After the hair is dry, apply the CHI Silk Infusion (my CHI flat iron came with a free bottle of the CHI Silk infusion and a one year warrenty. You can ebay the large bottle of CHI Silk Infusion to save $$). You simply apply a dime to quarter size amount in your hand and rub it throughout your hair. It is non-greasy. Next, you section your hair. Prior to applying the CHI flat iron to straighten your hair, make sure you protect it from the heat to avoid the dryness. I recommend either Motions which can be found in the black hair product aisle OR Aveda Brilliant Damage Control. Spray either the Motions or Aveda LIGHTLY to the strands right before you apply the straightner. After you are done straightening your entire head, apply the Farouk Biosilk Silk Therapy evenly throughout your hair (only a dime size amount) and wha laa... not only will your hair FEEL healthy and silky, the humidity or outside air won't puff up your hair. Oh, and use a good conditioner once a week to help with the dryness. Good luck.

The first thing to do is make sure you use a very good conditioner. Frizzy hair needs extra conditioning. You might even want to double condition it by using one when you shampoo and another leave in conditioner. (keep away from products with alcohol or wax)
It will also help if you can let your hair air dry naturally before straightening. Blow dryers dry your hair even more which will make it even more frizzy.
After shampooing and double conditioning, rub in a little of a straightening gel. After its dried and you have straightened it, use an oil based shine serum to help 'set' it.
This will greatly improve the smoothness of your hair and keep it smoother longer. But unfortunately for humid weather I don't think there is much you can do.
Another thing that will help is to use a straightener with porcelain plates. Metal plates can really dry out and damage your hair further.
I hope this helps!
Good luck!

Using a flat iron is definitely going to fry your hair no matter what. You should use some type of treatment from keeping it from breaking to much. I use a curling iron everyday and my hair is not the greatest. A good product is Aveda Damage Remedy.

there is actually flat iron hair spray you can either buy or order off the internet. right when you get out of the shower, there is a conditioner type of thing you put on which makes your hair feel and look sleek and smooth when you get ready to iron it. then each strand of hair before you iron it you spray the flat iron hairspray a couple of times. it works like a gel, and keeps your hair nice and flat. i forgot what its called, but its not hard to find.

Oh girl I have the same problem. I use a anti-friz serum from grana frutics or however you spell it. You can also buy a pretreatment for when you are going to flat iron your hair. Sometimes i will take a light hair spray and spray it in my hands and run it through my hair.

I use bed head after hours for mine. You shouldn't use your straightener when your hair is wet though cuz even though it says you can,its really bad for your hair and makes it even more dry ansd brittle.
