Marijuana is about as addictive as caffeine. You can find the National Institute on Drug Abuse rankings of addictive qualities for a number of drugs at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/basicfax5.htm
What you are feeling when you stop smoking marijuana is the reason you started taking it in the first place. Marijuana is a very good reliever of anxiety and tension. Dr. Tom O'Connell has done a ton of research on the subject and has come to the conclusion that most regular drug use of any type is really medicinal in nature.
He found that the vast majority of people he surveyed had several factors in common, all of which added up to long-term stress or tension in their lives. Like, for instance, lots of female addicts were sexually abused as children. For males, one of the common denominators was an absent or authoritarian father during childhood. His conclusion is that large numbers of these people are using it in the same way that people would use Valium they got from a doctor. Take away the Valium that calms them down and they get jittery and anxious - just like you -- because that's what made them starting taking drugs to relax in the first place.
If you smoke both weed and tobacco, the one that is really a threat to your health is tobacco. It kills about 400,000 people per year. The largest studies of the health records of marijuana smokers have found that no significant differences in the health histories of those who smoke pot versus those who don't.
If you have a choice between Valium and marijuana, the safer choice would probably be marijuana.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. O'Connell thinks that marijuana is the safest of the available drugs if you need something to relax. The scientific research supports his opinion.
If you review the information on addiction, you will find that tobacco is one of the toughest drugs to kick. Heroin addicts commonly report that it is easier to kick heroin than it is to kick tobacco.
Also, just FYi, marijuana should not be a problem with your weight issues. Despite the fact that it is renowned for making people hungry, surveys show that marijuana smokers are, on average, slightly thinner than those who do not smoke. The difference isn't really significant but it shows that marijuana is not connected to weight problems.

Willpower. If you really want to quit, do it. It is hard, you may have to distance yourself from it or people that do it, but if it is what you want then it doesn't matter. You just have to make your mind up that you are done, and stop. I know it sounds a little obvious, but you probably know about all the patches and gums and various ways of weaning yourself off of cigarettes and weed, but those things won't help you if you don't really want to quit. As far as losing weight...find a form of exercise you actually enjoy and keep doing it because you are enjoying the activity...pretty soon you will notice a difference...by that time you may have formed better eating habits. The point is that if you want to stop smoking and lose weight, you really have to want to...

I would strongly suggest seeing a counselor to help you through this tough time. Take life one day at a time and follow this credo:
JUST FOR TODAY: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.
I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things I can correct, and accept those I cannot.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking.
Just for today, I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I am overweight, I will eat healthfully -- if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will gather the courage to do what is right and take responsibility for my own actions.

Salt causes bloating and butter is high in calories, so flavor pasta, cereal, meat, and stews with refreshing herbs, garlic, and onions as an alternative.

When doing cookies, bake half the batch and scoop others into ice-cube trays. When your sweet tooth kicks in, pop out one and bake it to meet up with your craving without breaking the calorie bank.
