I have a 10 week old doberman now, and she is not hyper at all. She is actually the most laid back puppy i have ever had. When she wants to play she will play hard, but only for about 30 mins (45 at the most) and then she just wants to lay around, mostly on the couch. Yes she will run around the house, but what puppy doesnt. Honestly odbermans arent really hyper at all. And i will also add, that in 4 weeks, she has already learned how to sit,lay down, walk on a leash, com when called, and is about 80% housbroken and fully crate trained. They are very smart dogs.

My mom had a doberman when we were growing up and he was no more hyper than a labrador or golden retriever. So long as your puppy gets plenty of exercise and you start taking him out with a leash from the first day you get him, you shouldn't have much trouble! Our dog was always very calm in the house but playful and fun when we took him out in the yard. Also, dobermans are very receptive to training so it should not be difficult to teach him simple commands- he will probably enjoy it! So I'd say it will be nowhere near the experience you had with a Jack Russel Terrier. Good luck with your puppy!

All puppies are active. And trust me, a Doberman is no more "like" a Jack Russell Terrier than a Horse is like a Donkey.
The thing to remember about Dobermans is this -- They are WORKING dogs. They need jobs, activities, things to do. These things sometimes cause even adult Dobes to be classified as Hyper.
Get your pup into training early -- waiting is a huge mistake for this breed.

I don't think that you can compare a Doberman to a Jack Russell AT ALL. I wouldn't call a Jack Russell hyper, but VERY energetic. I have had a few Doberman's and they were pretty laid back dogs to tell you the truth.
A puppy is a puppy, period. Puppies are generally rambunctious.

Most large breed dogs are hyper as puppies (just from my own personal experience) but they calm down when they get to about a year and 1/2 old. I have a friend who has a Jack Russell Terrier, he is 4 yrs old ( the dog, not the friend!) and he is still one crazy wild dog!

I think puppies in general are hyper as pups. Much like human children. Enjoy it while you can. B4 you know it they grow up.
