I feel ya Jack. Don't think of God as the one described in any book. I think of God as being the collective energy of everything past, present and future. Therefore God is all knowing and all seeing, but has no power, but all of the power. This would explain why God hasn't done anything to stop AIDS, wars, etc. etc. Because there is no conscious creator, in fact I believe there was no creation at all. If time is a dimension like height, width and depth then time is infinite in both directions. As for the big bang, maybe the universe goes through cycles and it expands, and then collapses again and again. This is the most logical solution I've been able to come up with. Listen to everyone's theory on God and fom your own, I have too much of a strong feeling of something greater than me, and I think it's because I am only a part of the whole, and the whole is what's greater. Hope this helps. but the upside to being an atheist is you don't have to worry about what you do in this lifetime, but if you believe in karma and/or reincarnation you might want to be good. But really be good, cause it feels good, not cause some old book says so.
Cheers.

So without Christianity life has no meaning? Here's a little story:
I own two greyhounds. They like to run- a lot. They are absolutely STUPID for it! When I take the big one up into the mountains, he stays on a leash all the time, and he's used to it. He doesn't go farther than the leash allows him, and is perfectly happy just to walk and sniff.
But a couple times, when it's clear of other people and there's a lot of space, I let him off the leash. The funny thing is that when I do it, he keeps walking along the path like he's still held back.
Then I call his name, and he looks back. As soon as he realizes I'm farther away than the leash lets him go, a look comes over him. He immediately turns and runs FULL TILT around and around, as fast as he can for as long as he can, until his tongue is hanging out and he collapses in pooped doggy bliss.
So the question, from my dog's point of view, is this: if you don't know you're off the leash, how do you know there's not a huge field out there to REALLY live your life?
If the physical world is available to everyone, regardless of belief, and the only thing holding anyone back form accomplishing anything they desire is a religious, self-imposed barrier, what happens when you realize the barrier is gone? What could YOU do?

Atheism:
"People who deny God", are termed Atheist ". Atheist, do not deny God for the sake of it but rather place counter arguments to believer's thoughts.
If a believers tries to explain things abstract by forcing people to think by their rules called "faith", then Atheist explain things abstract with more wider, intricate and varied approach by forcing people to have free thoughts.
If an abstract argument is closed by a believer by the acceptance of "word God" then an Atheist opens an argument with the very denial of "word God" and proceeds forward. Atheist challenges and pushes the mind beyond where believer has stopped.
Atheist needs to develop strength in character mind and body and must have sharp reasoning at all times. Every thing about being an Atheist is Up side. That's the freedom of thought. Let the truth unfold itself not force fed by a pastors.

The GREAT thing about believing in God is that at the end of your life if you have been good, you are promised Eternal life in a wonderful Kingdom where this is no more tears no sorrow no hate no pain, etc.
If you don't believe and don't prepare, death is final, your dead and you rot away and that's it, no more of anything, its all over.
If one really studies the Bible there will be no doubt in its authenticity. The Bible foretells of history thousands of years before it happened. The Bible and history go hand in hand.
I took a Bible Prophecy course on
www.bibleuniverse.com
and you can watch while taking this fun and informative Bible course. It goes strictly from the Bible. Then afterword they send a really neat diploma suitable for framing, it great !
Don't give up until you have looked more into the facts of the Bible. Then study evidence from the other, that way you will make your choice based on evidence from both sides.
Good luck and have a Blessed New Year !

The upside is being able to live your life to the fullest without fear. You have (for the sake of argument) two hundred different religions saying theirs is the only path to heaven and the other199 will lead to hell. If there is one right choice (and the smart money says there isn't) you have 1 shot in 200 of finding it. Pretty crappy odds. So what sounds better; a life lived to the fullest without fear and then nothing, or a life full of trepidation followed by screaming in agony in hell for all eternity?

An atheist is defined in two senses: Someone who says he believes there is no God, and someone who simply lacks belief in God. An atheist cannot say he knows there is no God, because he would have to know all things in order to know if there is or isn't a God. If he says he believes there is no God, ask him why he believes that way, and begin there. If he says he lacks belief in God, then ask what he does believe in, and start there. I always get around to the question of, "How did we get here?" Since creation and evolution are the only options, I have something further to work with.
Evolution has a lot of problems with it. It seems to me that it takes a lot of faith to believe that you developed out of ocean slime, simply by chance. At least as a Christian I have the evidence of the resurrection of Christ from eye witnesses as recorded by them in the gospels. Evolution or not, Jesus rose from the dead, said He was God, and forgave sins. I'll put my faith in Him instead of evolution.
An agnostic says he doesn't know if there is or isn't a God. (Usually after saying this I challenge them to explain the prophecies of the Old Testament fulfilled in the New. I state how the Bible is unique that way, and that only God can make prophecies that are 100% accurate. Then I ask him to explain how that could be done if there is no God.)
If there is no God as you say, then in the end I lose nothing. But if there is a God like I say, in the end you lose everything.
Why don't you believe in God? Is there any reason for you to intelligently reject His existence? Or, do you simply desire not to believe in Him?
The Bible doesn't attempt to prove that God exists. It simply speaks as though He does. Maybe I can't prove to you there is a God, but I can introduce Him to you through His Son Jesus Christ, and you can judge for yourself if the Words of Christ in the Bible convince you of His existence.
(Note: We exist. How did we get here? An atheist's only option would be to say evolution. If you study evolution, by reading Christian books that reveal and document its many serious problems, then you will be able to weaken the atheist's belief in it. The logic is simple: If evolution and creation are the only options, to remove one is to support the other. Therefore, learn as much as you can about evolution. Your witness will be greatly strengthened.
However, evolution does not explain the origin of life, only its development. Discussions on origins of life are interesting in themselves.)

The life of an atheist is not without a point. The difference is that religious people believe they've been assigned a purpose; most atheists believe life doesn't come with guarantees or a predefined purpose. Life is what we make it. We have the power to assign purpose to our own lives. In my view, life takes on added value for atheists. It's no longer a waiting room we inhabit for a time before death, no longer a dress rehearsal for some posthumous reward or penalty. Life is what it's all about. That makes it extremely precious, something to be cherished, not wasted.
This is our time.
Make the most of it.

False. Atheists aren't lawless, we just don't live our lives according to ancient prejudices and superstitions written down millennia ago by people we don't know for reasons we cannot know. There are still laws and social mores. We don't accept them because they purport to have been handed down by a supernatural authority figure. We insist that they make sense.
> 2) If nobody sees you, you don't get caught.
There is still a thing called conscience. Most humans have one.
> 4) Nobody died for YOU, so you don't have to feel guilty.
We take responsibility for our own deeds and words, rejecting silly ideas like "original sin."
> 5) Sundays are for sleeping!
Sundays are for whatever we choose to do with them. We decide for ourselves. We also eat what we like without feeling bound to ancient and totally illogical dietary rules.
> 6) Christmas is about presents, and that's it.
Christmas isn't just about receiving gifts. It's a time of warm feelings, good food, time spent with friends and family, and good will toward our fellow human beings.
> 7) You can have your own morality, but it is based on your own conscience. If it feels right, it is.
Again, we have to follow the laws just like everyone else. We accept that this is necessary to maintain a civilized, orderly society. The only laws we reject are those based on ancient superstitions and baseless prejudices.

From an Atheist's point of view, life IS the upside. Make everyday count. So what if life is all you have, it's LIFE! Enjoy it, and try to make everyday better than the last. Love your family and friends, and live in a manner that they will be proud of when you are gone. Because, if there is no God, our legacy is all we have in the end!

So, who exactly created this world and solar system? A big *BOOM* created this planet, this delicate balance? An explosion created the human mind emotions. LOVE? I myself am a Christian. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My faith is growing and I know that this world is no incident. No coincedence from an unexplained *BOOM* I believe in God the Father, and in his Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost. I belive my faith and my morals are what keep me sane. Without it, I highly suspect I would not be a very good person. You have just yet to find the Truth. Please pray, and I would like it if you looked into my church (YOu may be more familiar with the term "Mormon" as that is what members of my church are called) If you look you can find a church and missionaries near you. I would be happy to assist best I can if you wish to email or IM me.
Thank you for this chance to say what I believe and please take my words into consideration. Life is short, and i refuse to believe that when my body stops working, I cease to exist. Truly, although their are some things that at times I wish I could do at times, but know are wrong, but all in all, I feel that my religion has NOT held me back, instead, it has helped strengthened me.
This world, you and your loved once are no accident. pray you find the truth, and God bless. Never stop looking for the truth untill you have found it, and then you can be in peace knowing that those you hold precious to you are not going to simply "end"
I do not spend my life wasting away, and waiting for death, as some have claimed Christians do. I live life to the fullest (you can live your life to the fullest and still abide by your religious dogma you know) Each day I find joy and know that this happiness I feel, will never end, but will become greater when I am with Him in heaven.
