The habit not to drink must be a lifetime change, behavorial, emotional, psysical...I am a recovering alcoholic, I have been sober almost a year and a half... (thanks). Anyway, he has to seriously want to stop drinking and he can and will. They have numerous counselors in all areas that worked for me, maybe he will consent to seek one...good luck, it was the best thing ever to happen to me.

If he is a heavy drinker, maybe he can quit on his own and it won't bother him.
If he is alcoholic, the chances are about 100% he will return to drinking unless he finds something other than will power to control it. Here is how to tell if he is alcoholic - he can't control his drinking, he drinks when it would be a good idea not to drink, and he lies to you about his drinking. If that sounds familiar to you or you are worried about his drinking, consider Al-Anon.

If he is a heavy drinker that means he is an alcoholic. There is no such thing as a heavy drinker. If he quits for 4 months as court ordered it will be up to him if he maintains his sobriety or not. Since I don't know him nor his situations it is hard to say if he will stay sober or not. For his and your sake I sure hope so as alcoholism can be a tough disease to fight.

It's up to your bf after the 4 month period. Anyone (including hard-core alcoholics) can stay sober if they find the strength. A strong support mechanism (you) can be as helpful as his own will power. Be there for him, let him know that you want him to succeed and you are willing to help him through all of the tough times (and actually do this.) I wish you both the best of luck!

i think your bf would need to make a choice not to drink. it's not a habit, or an addiction so much as it is a choice. you need to know if he wants to stop. i have a friend that thought he had a problem drinking (he did) and one day just decided to never drink again. that was over 20 years ago and he stopped cold and has never looked back.

I'm with you on this one darlin' ... The last one I REMEMBER drinking was a Jagger Bomb. Those are quite scrumptious as well! Mmmmm ... Today I don't remember much and don't want to think hard enough to try. Except I would like to try a glass of Crash's nummy Cabernet ... uh ... minus the fruit bat. ;-) Hope you had a blast ... Happy New Year! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yes it is possible that he could change but statistics have shown that most would become addicted again.

I don't think so although I'm not a doctor and you know that this may be a disease that he can't control unless he very willing.
