How do yo know???

i have known this guy for 3 years. we have dated on and off, and the a few weeks ago he told me he loved me. how do you know if you truly love some one??

Its just an undescribable feeling, something that grows with each day passing, makes you feel like you are intoxicated with the thoughts of them. Its not an easy feeling to get over because you will truly wonder how to get over it and there is no getting around it.

You know that you truly love someone when you would do anything for them. When the looks become waaaay secondary to their personality. When you're committed to that person. Just ask yourself, if they (God forbid) got in an accident tomorrow and got severe burns on their face or lost a limb, would you still want to be with them? True love is a conscious commitment, not a feeling that many people attribute to it. Being "in love" with someone is being infatuated with them. But "loving" someone is making a decision to be with them, to be their support and blanket of comfort, to strive to be a better person for them and help them become a better person. I think that's why it's so fitting that the traditional marriage vows contain phrases like "for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health..." Because that's what love is, it's a true commitment to someone. When the looks are gone and the health is gone, you'll still be there for them no matter what.

So decide if this is a person that you can see yourself with for the rest of your life, that makes you a better person, that you will care deeply for even as the looks and health, etc. are gone. If so, then yes, you can make a conscious choice to make a commitment back to them and love them. If not, then don't rush things.

P.S. This is what true love is, but many people use this word casually or to describe how they feel emotionally today. If they "love" you today and are not sure tomorrow, then it's not love, it's a feeling of being in love, which is temporary. Ask your boyfriend what this means to him to say that he loves you. If he's describing what most of the other people here said, about being really excited to be with you and wanting to dance in the rain, etc., then he's in love, which is great, but it's not love yet. You'll need a lot of time in order to find out if he truely loves you. But for now, saying "I love you" is pretty strong and it's a great begining of a relationship. Be happy with that!! And later on you'll find the answer!

To some it is physical, the sweaty palms, the heart flutters, the sense of warmth when they hear their name or when they see the phone number on Caller ID.

To others is mental, they have a sense comfort, they feel "whole" and they just have a feeling that this person they can depend on.

thats hard to answer i guess its different for everyone, have you ever been in love before? for me its when you get excited to hear his truck pull up in the driveway or have your heart pound when he kisses you , to blush a little when he looks at you ,to respect his opinions and enjoy his company more than anyone elses. its everything he does and says that sends you smiling all day even if he isnt there.

All of have to say is when your sure one thing love is and alwayz is is sure but if you have doubts or even if you say you love him and you have doubts it is not real loved.
