Global warming is what happens when you ignore every bit of scientific data predicting catastrophe for the last 30 or 40 yrs.

Global warming is an increase in the average surface temperature of the earth. Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of atoms and molecules. If the total energy of the system increases, so does the temperature. The total thermal energy of the earth's surface is a balance between energy received via solar irradiance (largely in the visible) and energy removed via emission from the earth's surface (largely in the infrared). Greenhouse gasses such as CO2 absorb infrared radiation from the earth's surface and re-radiate about half back towards the earth's surface that would otherwise be radiated into space.
While most Canadians would prefer warmer temperatures on average, the risks of global warming are:
1. the precipitation patterns will change so that food crops cannot be grown
2. ecology will be affected so many species will become extinct including possibly humans
3. melting of polar ice will flood coastal regions
4. melting of permafrost will release methane, possibly raising temperatures by another 30 C rather than the 5 or 6 degrees from CO2 alone. A 35 degree increase in global temperatures would kill most life on earth. If any humans were left, they would be Canadians sipping cold drinks beside tropical seas on Canada's northern islands near the North Pole. Southern Canada and the US would resemble the present Death Valley.

PS several posts mention ozone. Ozone is a different problem and is not a primary cause of global warming. Ozone blocks UV radiation. UV radiation dimerizes thymine, a DNA base. This prevents DNA replication which is very bad if you are a DNA based organism.

When someone mixes the ozone layer with global warming, ignore them for they don't know the first thing about it. Only one person had it right. Human induced global warming is a political phenomena and has very little to do with science. The proof is in your question. You will never hear them say how wonderful it would be for Canada to have warmer winters. All you will hear is how terrible it will be for the eskimoes if their ice melts. Their mission is to only provide negative scenarios and that way they can scare you into funding more of thier pseudoscientific research.

Global warming means that the Ozone layer fails to keep radiation out of the Earth's atmosphere and therefore causes the Earth's temperature to go up in general.

Also, it's not only bad for Canada but for all other nations around the world.

The media can't figure out if the problem is global warming or global cooling. It wasn't 30 years ago that the media said the polar ice caps were growing and there was a pending ice age that would kill everything...

Don't believe what you hear from the news... they just want to sell advertising space.

global warming is when supposely the ozone layer suppse to get out of earth and when that happens the water is slowly melting.. even now it melting.. the weather gets warmer and warmer each day. and soon the earth will be prob shrinking.. for example... new york city is surrounded by water so half of manhatten is going to be flooding...

i dont know if canada will be affecting as long as canada isnt surrounded by water.. then no..

global = planet
warming = heating

The world atmosphere is been damaged countlessly by technology,
we must stop this, or else, the world is not a better place to live,
It has already affected the globe in its weather, agriculture, and zone pollution.

Canada is still alot safer then countries like US and most EU countries where pollution rate is worse.
