I have really thick, straight, and hard hair. I can hold the curling iron for each strand over a minute, and when I let go, nothing happens. How do I make my hair easier to curl for formal occasions?

Try a leave-in conditioner for daily use, and an intense, hydrating conditioner once or twice a week. Also, hot rollers may work better than a curling iron. :-)

lighty spray your hair with a hairspray either a nornal strength or extra depending on how difficult it is to keep your hair in place. Spray one strand at a time, wait about 5-10 seconds before applyling the iron to it, curl and hold for 15-20 seconds depending on heat of the curling iron. Once it's curled lightly spray again to keep it.
For a nice updo look. Put your hair in a ponytail, take strands from the tail and do the same thing (spray and curl) Once it's curled take the end of the curled strand and bobbypin it back to the ponytail, near it, or somewhere else on the scalp still not too far from the tail.
It's an awesome look for a night out :)

go to a hairstylist and get a good hair cut removing some of the thickness, that will make it easier for you to section the hair starting from the bottom up, curl each section with your curling iron making sure that there is not to much hair all at once, most people don't take the time to do small sections. Spray each piece with hair spray, if the curl still fall out try hot rollers

If your hair has had no chemical processing: no color, no perm, no straightener, then that's called "virgin" hair in the hair biz. In that condition, the hair is extremely healthy, but like you say difficult to style.
Your hair may take easier to styling if you get your hair colored, highlighted, or otherwise chemically altered.
Chemical processing opens the cuticle of the hair, does what's inteneded, and then the neutralizer closes the cuticle. But.....it's never closed as tight as it was, and hence should be easier to manage.
Sounds strange....but it's true!
If you don't want to change your color, just buy a color like yours and do an at home dye job of the same color.
Or go to a salon and have it done.

Ok Egg white doen't work in fact it made my hair hard & it took forever to wash out.
Brushing your hair 100 times will not help either. You need to train your hair. I suggest sleeping in rollers or doing a wet set.
Also make sure you hair is deep conditioned. If your hair is used to being sraight It wants to stay that way so you have to train it to curl.

Really simple without buying something expensive if you want to soften your hair up, when it is dry brush it about 25-100 times (most likely less than 50) in a pattern and your hair will be really soft.
