People are turning away from true religion. They listen to what their pastor/minister/rabbi/cleric tells them instead of figuring out what their religion personally means to them. That's why a lot of Christians are "Sunday Christians" who are Christian mostly in name. Most couldn't tell you that Jesus' big message was "Love everybody and forgive them." They would look at a non-Christian and call them a heretic and shun them or try to convert them through force rather than peace. In my opinion, you should try to convert people by being nice to them and showing how your religion will help them. I personally wouldn't join a religion where people called me evil.
Basically, this happens in every religion. I'm not picking on the Christians, it's just that I live in the Bible Belt, so they're really the only religion I see in action around me. This is what I observe around me, and from what I've seen in the world, it's the same with other religions. People need something to express anger through. They use religion/fanaticism as an excuse too often. Deities probably cringe and smack themselves on the forehead every time a follower kills someone. "That's not what I told him to do, doesn't he read or THINK?"

This kind of hypocrisy turns many away from God. Jesus warned that not all who would claim to be his followers would be. Jesus said his Father was looking for ones who would worship in spirit (with their heart and emotions) and truth (no lies, no watering down of God's word). Only Jehovah's Witnesses choose not to go to war, have a worldwide brotherhood that embraces people from every nation, and follow the teachings of the bible without regard for what is "popular". If the hypocrisy of religion truly disturbs you, call your local Kingdom Hall to you arrange to discuss what the Bible says about false religion's end!

Well it sure sounds more noble to say ,"let's go and rid this coutry over here of it's oppressive leaders who are going directly against all that God stands for." than to say,"hey, this country has some really cool resources I would like to have in my control and just think of all the money I can generate by perpetuating this in Jesus' name."

mortgag said it all. God doesn't want war, but people use his name for an excuse to start wars. Where the logic comes from, I dont know. I myself am Christian (Mormon) And I think its just wrong to start unfair wars like that, it igves us a bad name. God din't put people on Earth to be killed...

This is so true... I think that religions convey peace a lot and they kind of don't promote it.
