I think you are confusing "faith" and "belief". They are not the same thing. Beliefs can be formed based on reason, or on faith, or a combination. So faith is one kind of belief, like a subset of all beliefs.
I don't know any atheists that are atheists as a result of faith, but I suppose that is possible.
Everyone believes in certain things. For example, most people learn to believe that 2 + 2 = 4, or that the earth orbits the sun. I believe there are no gods and that there never have been. But my mind is not fixed on this forever and under all conditions. For example, if I am convinced tomorrow that a god exists, I will change my belief immediately. This change in my belief would result from evidence that convinces me that my previous position was wrong.
Faith (belief in something even though there is no supporting evidence) doesn't come into this equation. I do not have faith that there are no gods - rather, it is a reasoned belief, based on the distinct lack of evidence to the contrary.

No, and I'm not going to be insulting like some others might be so please read and think about this answer. I've heard about and even read into a few different religions, and none of them, to me, provided any reason to believe in them. So, I just decided not to believe in them or their holy books or their gods because none of them made sense in the modern world. So I don't have faith that I'm right, I just have no reason to believe that the Bible or the Koran (etc. etc.) is right. No faith required.

Atheist actually have much more faith than I will ever have. To believe that order has been created out of nothing takes a faith that I am unable to understand. It's like taking a box of toothpicks, throwing them up in the air and having them all land creating a house and plants and trees and living human beings. Wow.

I'd rather be called a skeptic. I don't believe in anything. Belief infers acceptance of things not proven, having faith that something is so. There are things I know, things I don't know and things that I know enough of to draw conclusions based of applied logic. I don't believe in gods, spirits, ghosts, invisible super beings in the sky, fairies, elves, unicorns, the tooth fairy, and a lot of other things because I have never seen any evidence for their existence. I do have an open mind, but my mind is not so open that my brains fall out.

I think what you meant was why do atheists spend so much time defending their non belief. I have a friend who is an atheist who tells fellow atheists that fighting about something they don't believe in is silly. He said it is equivalent to him spending hours on discussing things like unicorns not existing, etc. He respects people who do believe, but doesn't want it shoved down his face. He considers the ones that argue more of agnostics. He even doesn't care about prayers before a community meeting commences. So it's not fair to group them all together.

I like Bellastaci's answer. I'm athesit and I feel the same as his friend. I don't like to get into arguments about beliefs. I will however defend myself if called stupid. I don't push my beliefs on anyone and wish to be respected in the same way. Prayers do not bother me in the least. My family is christian and say grace before every meal. I always bow my head, but I do not say amen afterward. I have even sometimes gone to church on special occasions. My motto is live and let live.

You should learn what the words you use mean. It might prevent you from making a fool of yourself again.
Athiesm is a lack of belief in gods, not a belief in nothing. Atheists believe in plenty of things, just not gods.
Faith is belief without evidence or reason or in spite of evidence or reason to the contrary.
A lack of belief is not a belief!

You are absolutely right. Atheism is an organized belief system relating to the existence of God, which is the same definition as religion.
