No No not yet, don't even put anything in his bottles yet, if he is on the bottle. Their little systems aren't ready for anything except milk or boiled water at the moment. Crankiness with sleep is not a good sign that they are ready for food. It is now the norm to wait until babies are 4 to 6 months before starting and then it is only a tiny bit each day of the same food. Starting babies too early on solids not only is bad for their systems it can also lead to an increase in food allergies. My boys started solids around 4 months and my daughter started at 6 months. If it seems like he is hungry then give him a little more of a feed, bottle or breast. Not all babies stick to the four hourly routine. It wont hurt to give him more milk but it will hurt to give him solids. Also they should be supporting their own head weight before you start. Relax and enjoy your baby while he is still a baby, they grow too fast without us pushing them.

No. A baby's digestive tract and bowel are not ready for solids. If you are breastfeeding then that will be the only food your baby needs for a long time. The first solids should be introduced only after you've had a discussion with your doctor and might be around 4 months or so. Each baby is different, and they develope at their own speed; learning to drink milk or formula is a tough concept, eating and swallowing is a whole different 'ball game'. Keep in contact with your doctor.

The usual time to start feeding solids , which is recommended by most, is about 6 months of age. I will give you a good web site to go to that I use very regularly, they have tips for just about everything, not to mention that you can get onto a good forum and ask advice from other mothers/fathers.

Congaratulations, and good luck with your little boy. I hope you enjoy him as much as I do my 2 boys .

You need to talk to your doctor about when to start solids but no he is not ready for solids yet. You can add a tiny pinch of rice cereal to his night time bottle to help him sleep better but otherwise he is not ready for solids. Call your doctor though and ask him when he recommends starting solids. Usually you don't start solids till 5-6 months of age but each doctor is different and each child is different.
