Up until here recently, My 20 month old has been a VERY good eater, Eating 3 meals a day, Breakfast was usually cereal and milk, Lunch, a hot dog, or home cooked chicken nuggets and maybe chips..And dinner, a vegetable, meat & usually potato's or french fries...He was also snacking inbetween meals, NOW, I am lucky to get him to eat a HALF of a hot dog, Or 2 chicken nuggets...He's not sick, We took him to the Dr, was just wondering why his appetite is slowing down..Also, Wondering if there was anything I could do to make eating 'more fun' for him??

I just had a baby 7 weeks ago, Could this have anything to do with his decrease in food consumption?

I have seen the same trend with my son. I think that it has a lot to do with how much they are growing. I have also found it helpful to make sure that there are no distractions at meal time so he can focus on the task at hand. The advise that I was given was to look at the amount and types of food he eats in a week rather than judging it by the day. I know that it is nerve wracking, but I'm sure that he will eat when he is hungry! Good luck.

The baby could have something to do with it but I would say it is just a phase. The doctor always told, don't worry they will eat when they are hungry. When my daughter was little she did the same thing. I would fix a plate with small bite size portions on it like small pieces of chicken or hotdogs or cooked carrots, dry cereal, etc and put them on a table in her playroom while she was playing and most of the time it wasn't long until I would see her reaching for bites.

You having a new baby could have a lil bit to do with it but Ive learned that childrens eating habbits change like the weather and as long as hes gaining weight and the dic isnt worried I wouldnt be either...keep trying to give him food but again I wouldnt worry untill his weight drops or he get lethargic...also why dont you introduce some new colorful foods like hams and green vegies and like some red sauce something colorful and new so hell be more apt to try it that what I did with my kids and it worked well for me so I dont know give it a try it cant hurt

I ALSO HAVE A 20 MONTH OLD SON AND HE HAS BEEN A GREAT EATER UP UNTIL 2;3 WEEKS AGO, NOW FLAT GETTING A FULL MEAL INTO HIM , WEATHER ITS LIKE THEY STOP A GROWTH SPURT AND SUDDENLY START LAYING OFF THE FOOD ;OR WEATHER ITS THAT THERE TASTE BUDS HAVE A SUDDEN CHANGE AND THEY ONLY SEEM TO EAT THINGS THAT HAVE A PARTICULAR TASTE, BUT I JUST PERSISTED AND HE;S NOW STARTING TO EAT VEGGIES ETC. YOUR SON WONT STARVE HIMSELF AND IF THEY ARE HUNGRY ENOUGH THEY WILL EAT WHATS GIVEN TO THEM ,CAUSE YOU START GIVING THEM EVERYTHING THEY WANT THEY EXPECT IT ALWAYS AND TH ATS NOT REAL HEALTHY AND YOUR HEALTH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN YOUR LIFE,, KIDS ARE HARDIER THAN WHAT YOU THINK

Totally normal at this age, my son is 20 m.o. too and is going thru the same thing. Just keep offering his old favorites let him eat as much (or as little) as he wants and don't make a fuss about it. It's just a stage, they are not growing as rapidly right now and their interest in the "novelty" of solid food has waned a bit.

I'm pretty sure this is because of his new sibling. He's probably jealous of the fact that his new sibling is getting alot of your attention. Because of this, he's looking for more ways to get noticed. He's found a way to get attention by not eating. When he doesn't eat, you say "One more bite" or "Keep eating" and he's getting the attention he's looking for.

You need to set aside special time that is just for the both of you. Put together a puzzle, draw a picture, go for a walk. Something that is just time for you and him.
