Humans need guidelines to help them make good decisions in life. Some religions offer some guidance, but many are very limited and limiting. Without members, religions die out. So, yes, religion needs man. As for the other way around, there have been isolated cases where religion has been a positive influence on the lives of people, but it is not true in every case. Religion is therefore NOT a "need" for human beings even though some of the qualities that religion claims to propagate are good for humans.

Man needs something thats for sure. When you have BILLIONS of people obsessed with a delusion, it tells you that most of us are not ready to tackle the real world. Like cattle, people continue to prove that they need to be lead wherever and don't ask questions. That's why a Hitler became leader, the reason why so many people deluded themselves about the "war with Iraq", why so many say "it was a demon or ghost" when they hear a noise in the house. Gullible, cavemen-like people. How could we possibly be the most advanced species on this planet?

No man does not need religion; But what they do need is the truth Jesus Christ Lord and savior. You do know that Jesus himself hated religion don't you. He said religion kills, in some translations it says that religion kills the very heart of a man. After all it was the religious people of his day that pushed to have him crucified.
So Man does not need religion, But it is Jesus they need.
And religion needs Jesus as well.

I feel that most of mankind is searching for something to believe in and show him that his life has a purpose. I am amazed by people joining religions just to feel a part of a group, but if that makes them happy, then fine.
The answer to your question is man needs religion.
Religions are man-made.

Man NEEDS a relationship with God. That is why Jesus the Christ came to earth. To die as payment for our sins, so that we could restore that relationship. That what TRUE Christianity is. YBIC
