Yes, it is called rifling. It makes the bullet spin when it exits the barrel which makes it fly straight.

Rifle barrels have lands and grooves cut in them to make the bullet spin which stabilizes the bullet to give it better accuracy. Pistols, muzzle loaders and shotguns (with rifled barrels) also have them. The rate of twists differ from caliber to caliber. It will be stated 12-1 for example. That means the bullet makes a full revolution every 12 inches. Some rifles have fast twists like 10-1 and muzzle loaders that are made to shoot round balls usually have a 66-1.

Not all shotgun barrels are "smoothbores". There are shotgun barrels with twist in them, meant to shoot slugs. However, rifled shotgun barrels should never be used to shoot shotshells out of. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleive the standard twist ratio for rifles is 1/10 (1 full twist for every 10 inches or barrel length). Some makes\models have different specs, but I think this is the usual ratio.

Yes. The amount of spiral is not set by caliber, but is set by manufacturer. Shot guns shooting shot will not shoot as far as a rifle because the pressure is not focused on one projectile. A shot gun shooting a slug will shoot as far as a rifle, with all things being equal. Black powder guns do have rifling because they shoot sabots and not ball like they did in the past.

The spiral grooving in the barrel is called "rifling" otherwise it is a gun.

this is why a rifle is called a rifle, the twisted grove in the barrel is called "Rifling" Long guns such as shot guns are smooth bores,no rifling . The rifling adds stability to bullet allowing for far better accuracy at greater distances than a smooth bore

Yes, as do many pistols. Shotguns have "smoothbores" as do muskets and "older" muzzle loaders. These are all guns.
