I am considering dumping my landline and taking Vonage. Seems the best in all reviews

you always can try it out...you got 30 days, but don't cancel your land-line! I got VoIP, and I kept my land line for 4 month! but now I'm very happy with my VoIP provider...my town is E911 ready...I did everything on the Internet, and then I called 911.... 3 times just to make sure it works...but I called the Police ahead of time to tell them I was testing my new service...

This is the same thing i posted in another thread...

I have had Vonage for a year and it works perfectly for me. After installing it i read a lot of negative reviews from former customers on cnet.com, and I agree with some of the points they made. Customer service is not as easy to reach as regular companies, and you have to know what you are doing when installing. And it takes 3 weeks to switch the number.

I guess that you will need a quick internet connection. I have 6 Mb/s cable connection, which used to be 4Mb/s which worked just as well. For me there is no difference from the old service other than that its cheaper.

I've had it for almost 2 years now and I havent had any issues with it. The only problem is when your broadband goes down you will have no phone service, which isnt Vonages fault. Your VOIP is only as good as your broadband provider.

Take in mind that if you do not have battery backup and loose power you will be with out phone service. The same can be said if you loose internet connection. They offer 911 service but it is not the same 911 service offered by a conventional phone company. All in all I do not see it practical for residential use, I do see it as a viable solution for businesses.
