I recently(Dec.26)got into my first car accident. An 81 year old little old lady hit me.She damaged my car but thank God neither of us were hurt.I was more concerned about getting my car fixed than in sueing her insurance company for "alledged" personal injury.I've already given my statement to the insurance adjuster and my car was immediately put into the shop and I was offered a rental and possible compensation for lost time from work. Some people are telling me I should have went to the hospital and got a lawyer and sued.Did I go about it right or did I screw myself?

P.S.,the insurance adjuster asked me about injuries and I told her I only had stiffness when I woke up the next morning.Would I be offered anything?(it doesn't really matter, though,I thought I was doing the right thing.

No, you didn't "screw" yourself.
In a perfect world, the adjuster's job is to "make you whole" by replacing everything you lost with its money equivalent. That's the definition of "indemnity".
In a perfect world, when you are satisfied that you have been paid for everything you lost in the accident, you will sign a release. A release is called that because you are "releasing" the insurance company (actually their policyholder) from further obligation.
When people try to get more than they're due they screw everybody else.

You did the right thing. Do you really think you 'screwed' yourself by telling the truth? Who do you think would have gotten screwed if you had lied? A lawyer would only have taken 40% of your settlement and you most likely would not have gotten an extra dime for your trouble. Everyone complains about high insurance costs but almost everyone will willingly fake injuries in an accident. Over 60% of every claims dollar is spent paying or combating fraud. If this tidal wave of lawyers and fake injuries could only be halted insurance costs would plummet.
Be proud you still have dignity.

Yes I think you done the right thing morally, because a lot of people are just about the money. The only draw back is that if you really had pain the next day the , you should have seen a doctor to be sure nothing seriously was injured. Then you could have asked for the for the medical bills to be paid.

The only way you "screwed yourself" was you weren't like most scum out there who see getting in an accident as a "lottery ticket" to money they dont deserve. These jerks will get whats coming to them anyways because what goes around comes around...
If you do really think you need treatment its not going to be a problem and they will compensate you for it. But it seems like the insurance company is doing everything write so far so i applaud you for being a good person...
The most these people who run to lawyers will get anyways is alot of time taken up and a few hundred bucks. And they raise rates for all of us.

Your honesty is always the right thing....You wouldn't have done any harm to the lil old lady..except maybe caused her insurance rates to go sky high...(I'm sure she's on a fixed income)...and with no permenant physical damage...you wouldn't have gotten much money anyway.....Your conscience is at peace..and your car is getting fixed...I'd say you absolutely did the right thing. (I was in a very serious accident a few years back....took 3 years to sue and get a settlement....it really wan't worth all the hassle. You'd have to had gone through a ton of medical issues to get any sort of significant settlement! God Bless You in your decision to be honest!!

Sounds 2 me like U did the right thing. U can still get checked out by a Dr. To blatantly run to sue anybody, (or their Insurance Co.) is not a good thing. I would always worry about the karma involved. If u r OK, & the elderly lady is OK....turn the page, say a 'Thanx' to wherever works 4 u...& move on....

Tell your 'friends' to get a life and quit being sue happy. Sure, get an attorney involved and wait years for a settlement--NOT.
Yes, you are doing the right thing, and thank you for not scaring the little old 81 year old any more than she already is.

Some accident victims typically feel fine right after the accident. Then the next day comes and WHAM!!!! The pain, soreness and inability to move normally hit like a ton of bricks from a fifth story building. You should go to your doctor and get checked up as well as inform your insurance agent about going to the doctor's office.

Yes, you did the right thing. Your personal integrity is worth far more than the few dollars you might make feigning an injury where none exists.
