...would that be proof that God exists, or that at least some of Christianity is true? I don't believe in God, but I wonder how I would react if I really thought I saw an exorcism. Granted, if you don't believe in God, you're not likely to believe someone is truly possessed, but what if you saw some crazy stuff? Would you be at all swayed to believe?

Don't forget about the exorcism. I guess I should have specified that the exorcism is Catholic and it appears to work. I think THAT is what would make me wonder.

As for crazy stuff, I mean something that couldn't be easily explained, like a head spinning around.

I would find it very hard to swallow.
I think people who are "possessed" are actually "mentally ill" and would be better handled by a psychiatrist than a priest...

The actions associated with exorcism don;t just happen to Christian and other people of religious faith. It can happen to anyone. God is an invention by man, so not matter what happens to people of this world, it can not prove a fantasy created by religious leaders to control people. There can be a number of explanations for phenomena that makes people behave this way. It is the close-minded, superstitious person who makes the leap that it can be Satan Only. If people would stop being so ridiculously close-minded about things they DO NOT UNDERSTAND, maybe we could solve some of this cr*p!

People are more ready to believe in fairy tales then science and that's the problem. So no, this phenomena does not prove the fantasy that is God or Allah or whatever people want to name their imaginery friend.

I Have Seen An Exorcism And When A Pastor Yells "In The Name Of Jesus!" And A Woman Covers Her Ears Like Its Nails On A Chalkboard And Kicks Around, And Starts Hitting The Pastor, You Know Something Is Wrong.

No it wouldn't be "proof" that a "creator god" as usually thought of exists... it merely means that there are spirits who are so grasping and attached to this life, for some reason or other (mischief, unfinished business, bad karma, etc.) and will do mischief to anyone who isn't wary or toys with things like magick and don't know what they're doing. And exorcism is simply a "magick" trick done by the Catholic Church, which ANYBODY in the know (i.e. well learned Shamans, Wiccans, etc.) can do with caution and years and years of knowledge (redundant I know... but it's for emphasis) to shuck the spirit being back to whereever it is that it comes or to coax it into a better rebirth.

Hope this helps.

Well, I know God exists, so I don't need any further proof of that. I do believe that my ex-wife is the devil's sister and could use a good exorcism. YBIC

If I saw something like that, I would assume some mental disorder like schizophrenia, a psychosis, or a seizure. Nothing that happens would convince me of possession. Hence exorcism is not possible. Valium helps more than prayers.

29 yrs befor I came to God and became of The True Christian Faith... an evil spirit, demon?, made an attempt to possess me... this was witnessed by another or I would have though I had lost my mind... It scared the holy hell out of me... and the guy who witnessed it.... it was litteraly crawling over the foot of my bunk and I woke up when it touched me... it had a clear shape but was not exactly solid and it tried to crawl up over me. When the guy in the bunk accross the room screamed bloody murder and threw his pillow at it... it just kind of slid back down off the end of the bunk and kind of hovored for a second and then just kind of went out like faded fast... when the fire watch showed up to see what the yelling was bout I just told him I had a nightmare and the other guy said it had woken him up.... but we both went out and spent the rest of the night in the lounge and that fellow requested another bunk assignment... and he did not want much to do with me after that... that is about as good an example as one could have... as per your question... but it did not turn me to God at all. I continued to be a God mocker.... then 29yrs latter it happened that I came to a point of needing God and I called out to Him and He was there. I have been His for over 6 yrs now. ...

I like SiFiNut's simple, short answer . . .

The Bible says the just shall live by Faith (not proof)
It also says the the knowledge of God is put in the heart of man.

Believing in God is as easy as 1,2,3

Not believing takes a lot of schooling and wrestling - but keep up the fight - you can block God out - he will at some point give you up to your own desires . . . not that it is pretty . . . but it can be accomplished

That would be quite a paradox. It would probably be a fairly traumatic experience and you would probably start questioning things..."how were they possesed?" by a spirit "where did the spirit come from?"... you see what I mean. You'd have to convince yourself that it was a severe mental illness induced by suggestion of possession to the victim, and that the excorcism was nothing more than the perfect suggestions to the victim mind to make them snap out of it.

If seeing is the only way you will believe. I believe in God through by faith. I don't need proof, I sought him out and found him. The Bible says seek and you will find. I challenge you to do that. Stop worrying about possessions.

What crazy stuff? Can you be more specific instead of overly vague?

If I saw someone's head spinning around and then they were fine afterward, I'd say that's pretty crazy. But I wouldn't immediately conclude that Satan did it.
