iStockPhoto, Stock.Xchng, Getty Images, and Fotolia. No one came out and called you an idiot. You asked a question, and people answered. You're asking a question of those that are more experienced than you, and sometimes that advice can come across cynical and even sarcastic. Bottom line, thinking that stock photos are they way to make money with digital photography? May not be the smartest way of thinking. You are up against people older, smarter, more experienced, and doing it a lot longer than you have. You're going to be a newbie trying to get your photos seen among millions of other images, and hope to make money off of it. If you are an exceptional photographer? You may make a few bucks here and there. Realistically? You'll put in a lot of time, work, effort, and what you'll probably make won't be worth it. Your out of pocket expenses will exceed what you bring in on a monthly basis. You've mastered a DSLR and have a love of photography, and all without a diploma? Congrats, so have thousands of other people. You've taken more than 3,000 photos? Not impressive, I work for a clothing retailer and do that in 2 weeks time as a day job. You're going to be a small fish in a big pond, you may want to rethink how you earn money from photography.

Yes, but it will take some time and effort. I have been doing this for 6 months, taking pictures for about 10 years now and have yet to make a dime. I have had my work published in the newspaper and was able to solicit a freelance job through craigslist, that was canceled on short notice, so I almost made it. I have looked at shutterstock but sadly my photo's do not meet their 4 megapixel requirement...I applied for a job as a production photographer but was up against 30-40 other applicants. But this is rural Maine that we are talking about and I do believe that it would be easier somewhere else. So yes there are many ways, all of which require time and commitment. Yes, very much so. But you are in great competition as the digital camera has opened the door to ameteur eyes with great equipment. The amount of competition on Getty Images and iStockphoto, etc, should be enough to know that you won't get paid much for what others will do for cheaper.

yes! the most photographed subject in the world are people. People shell out money all the time to have their pictures taken. I love taking picture of people and I am making a career out of it. Starting off, it's a little rough, but it will pay off in the long run.

Certainly, but there's also millions of other photographers who are wanting to do the same thing. There's weddings, portraits, stock photography, galleries. Most of those still involve prints, but there's plenty of ways to make money.

If you mean CREATE money, then you wish.
But if you mean EARN money, I'm pretty sure. You could display some stuff online, sell some prints, the usual.
