I was given tramadol about seven years ago for all-over pain in my body that was labeled "fibromyalgia". Since that time I have become addicted to it and cannot stop it without going through withdrawal. If I can't get it, like a drug addict, I would do almost anything. I am now non-functional at all without it. Has anyone else ever been on it with this problem and how did you get off? I have been pretty consistent at two 50 mg tablets three times a day to be able to work and be "normal". The withdrawal is horrible - after just a few hours of missing a dose. I get achy, feverish, sweats, sleepy, electric shocks in my body, headache, nausea, diarrhea, etc...

Sorry to hear that, I took it for a while, didn't do anything for me at all, and that includes taking any of the pain away, I was then prescribed vicadin, if thats how ya spell it !! it worked very well and started to become addicted to that, so I myself stopped everything, I slept for a few days, I now take OTC stuff, and have for the last 2 years, it helps but not as much as the other !!! Talk to your Doctor, and see if there is something he/she can do for you.

This is what I would try:
1. Start taking 20 mg./day Cymbalta:http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/anti-depressants/generic_cymbalta.html (you can order from here or get prescription from dr.). It is prescribed for allover pain of fibromyalgia.
2. Continue taking Ultram as usual for 2 weeks.
3. After 2 weeks, discontinue one of the Ultrams in the middle of the day.
4. After 4 weeks, discontinue one of the Ultrams in the morning.
5. After 6 weeks, discontinue one of the Ultrams at night.
6. After 8 wk., stop the mid-day Ultram.
7. After 10 wks., stop morning Ultram
8. After 12 wks., stop night Ultram (unless absolutely needed)
9. Continue taking Cymbalta all along. Work up to 40-60 mg./day.
Good Luck.

Sounds to me like you are addicted to the drug. Discuss with your doctor about going off the Tramadol and how to do that. You would have to wean yourself off slowly, you would not be able to go off cold turkey without experiencing withdrawals. It isn't going to be easy for you, trust in God, pray for strength, and seek help from your doctor. Also talk to an addictions counsellor, they can give you good advice. Good luck.

To deal with the withdrawals see if you doctor can prescribe you Tramadol with less milligrams. Take this and then get one again with less milligrams. If you wean yourself off of it instead of quitting cold turkey you might have an easier time with it.
