What I mean is that, I have an aunt and she has an outy bellybutton and so does her children. I'm wondering if navel appearences follows in the genes.

P.S If you're wondering how I know wether my aunt and her kids are outies, it's because my aunt is pregnant and she let us see her tummy, my older cousin went swimming with us with trunks on and my 1 year old baby cousin can walk in her nappies all day if she wants.

The type of navel a child will have has absolutely no bearing on the parents. The navel is not hereditary. In fact, it is a person's first scar! When the cord is clamped and severed, the remnant will wither and fall off, leaving a small scar - the belly button. When the scar is concave, it withdraws into the body. For others, the scar protrudes.

Medical science has never been able to determine why some people have innies (90%) and some have outies. All theories have proven false.

BTW, don't judge your aunt's navel by what you are seeing now! Many women's belly buttons become "outies" during pregnancy due to the growth of the abdomen. You would have to ask her what her navel is when not pregnant!
