Well Brother, I am willing to "bet" that the "non-believers" will tell you it is all an accident. We do know better, don't we? YBIC

The question shouldn't be "why are we here?", but rather "what is life?" and the answer is (and I highly recommend you sit down and chew it over yourself, don't take my word for it): Life is impermanent and is dependent upon a bunch of different things that bring us, our thoughts and so on into existence. We all want to be happy and we should strive diligently to achieve true happiness that is the freedom from suffering. All things impermanent are suffering, which means EVERYTHING is suffering because everything is impermanent. The minute you're born, you're dying, the minute a car is created, it's rusting and decaying... therefore the best thing to do is to develop freedom from attachments and clinging to the things you perceive (falsely) as being "good" or "happiness" and work to develop freedom from aversion to things you normally label as "bad" or "suffering" in your old ways of thinking. It does NOT mean that nothing exists, nor does it mean that everything exists indepently... it does NOT mean that you should become an ascetic and wander in the wilderness naked and starving, NOR wallowing in cash and stuff, but a nice little medium... right down the middle. Like the Buddha heard (according to the tale) while meditating in seclusion, "if you tighten the string too much it will break, and if you let it too loose it will not play" referring to a question from a music master and his apprentice's answer.
May you find true happiness and freedom from suffering!

Each individual has to answer that question for themselves. To me the knowledge that I create and define my life and no one else is extremely liberating. I find the meaning I make in being the best wife, friend, and maybe someday mother that I can be. I find meaning in the world through applying my education in a career that I hope will make a difference. I find meaning in learning all I can while I am here because it helps me to appreciate things on deeper level. I create meaing by reaching out to others in need. I like to think that each of us can make the difference we choose in improving the world for ourselves, other, and future generations. I personally don't see a need for a Higher Being to give me meaning and purpose.

To live.
I know it seems boring and pointless sometimes, but there are other moments when life can be rewarding by its own merits.
Try to make the best of it.
If you find it personally helpful to believe in God, then by all means feel free to believe. As for logical or scientific PROOF, there isn't any. It's okay. Believe what helps you. Meanwhile, life is its own reward.

If Jesus was not alive and well we would not be here either. God would have burned us out of existance had it not been for his Glorious Son who is Saviour and Lord of all the universe.

Maybe we are the Higher Being, and it decided to divide itself infinitely into DNA strands creating life and destroying itself at the same time.

To enjoy life, I don't find life enjoyable being stuck in church and my nose in a book. That and so you can work and have the Government take all your hard earned money!

From the look of things here, we are on the earth simply to annoy each other, offend each other and then kill each other off.
