There is no product out there, whether hair grease or the next miracle hair growth product, that will make you grow healthy hair. Hair growth is determined by overall health and genetics. If you take care of yourself inside and out through exercise, good eating habits, drinking water, taking vitamins(if you don't eat foods that contains certain mineral/vitamins needed for a healthy body), etc, then you will see healthy hair growth. As someone else mentioned, products help to maintain the hair. They don't treat damage, and and definitely do not promote growth.
If you are looking for products that help maintain your current growth, and prevent breakage, then products without mineral oil and petroleum/petrolatum products are good options. These ingredients prevent moisture from entering the hair shaft, which can cause dryness. Dryness then causes breakage. Your hair needs to maintain proper moisture balance in order for you to retain and hopefully grow more healthy length. Carol's Daughter makes nice scalp dressings. Myhoneychild is another brand that has nice scalp/hair creams. Both can be purchased online.

I don't use traditional old school "grease" because its main ingredients are petroleum and/or mineral oil which coats the hair shaft not allowing moisturize to enter or leave the shaft. This is not good for most african americans because we have such dry hair and we need a good moisturizer for our hair to be healthy And healthy hair grows. When I want to use something grease-like on my hair I buy natural oil pomades. My faves are from www.qhemetbiologics.com and www.oyinhandmade.com. I actually buy a lot of my hair products from both of those sites. They use natural ingredients which I love with no artifical damaging ingredients like petroleum!

I tried all types of grease and shampoos that are suppose to make my hair grow. Reality, there is no REAL one contrary to what anyone says. I recommend getting your ends trimmed every few weeks, keep it healthy and use a deep conditoner once a week, and the grease I like the best is Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade. It does not have petroleum and allows your scalp to breath. I absolutely LOVE it! Good luck!
