The cost jumps to over a billion a year if you include county jails. Those illegal aliens are in prison because they committed crimes. The amount listed does not include court costs.

It is a myth they contribute a lot to our economy. They are actually a drain on the economy since they lower wages, put people out of work, and contribute to the growing trade deficit.

The reason why America spends $700 million + dollars a year on Illegal immigrants is simple.

1st- Politics
2nd- Human Rights activist here in America
3rd- Small and Large Businesses do not want to pay higher wages, they are extremely cheap. These business owners and large company's such as Wal*mart hire these immigrants because they know that they will for one, work like dogs for next to nothing and two they will never ever complain.
So with these 3 great powers at hand it forces certain laws to be upheld and paying $700 million dollars a year to hold prisoners is just one of them.Think about it, if these businesses had to pay a better wage it would cost them more money, so the business owners know its better to have the State / government pay with tax dollars then for their businesses to lose out.

But the overall fact in the matter is by doing this we are leaving born Americans without jobs and unemployed. Its also stopping the minimum wage from being increased, from what I understand its going to be another 8 years for minimum wage to be looked at again in certain states, MA being one of them.
By being cheap we are only hurting our own people and country.

I hope this answered your question. And PLEASE LEAVE thumbs UP if you like my post.

California spends money to keep them in jails because they don't want to just kick them out without punishment. If you have a illegal alien who is a rapist, who got sentenced to 15 years in jail, You don't just drive him to the border and drop him off. He has to pay his sentence first. Then there are those who are in the process of being deported. That can take a few months, depending and up to a couple of years if the person appeals the case. That's just the way a justice system works. Costs money.

You know, it's kinda a King Solomon kind of punishment, it seems to me that if illegals come here to work, then if the become criminal ...they should work. What ever happened to chain gangs? Put these people to work. Let em' out early if they do a good job. Keep em' full time if they don't.
Lots of employers out there want em'. Let the employers pay the
Feds $6 and hour for the prisons work and we'd be off and running. I think the illegals might operate a bit differently that way. Like canceling any public marches and so on, to complain of their fates.
Just a thought.

no longer purely the illegals -- it is each and every of the social classes (including loads of homeless, druggies, baby molesters) and greed in the state besides. do no longer look after California -- the taxes and value of living is purely too intense yet no longer waiting to get a activity pass. it is not honest to every physique different people who've accomplished each and everything maximum appropriate. You dont like having to bail out this gawd forsaken state touch California's reps and *****.

Eric M has the right idea, for each illegal alien that is incarcerated their home country should pick up the bill for that criminal.
Why should we tax payers pay for some criminal that doesn't even belong here, heck we got enough American criminals to deal with and pay for, we don't need the illegals too.

Perhaps before making your ignorant questions you should consider that those "illegal aliens" contribute with more than 25% of California's economy.

Because if they deported those that are known criminals, they would only come back. I believe that you would end up spending more money on their next crimes, than the cost of housing.

It boils down to unproper border check points , and the border itself, with that amount of money we better secure our borders .
