Cats are picky about thier litter boxes: try this from drjon@petplace.com : sweep the litter at an angle like a pool, shallow to deep and note the level they prefer. Then keep your litter at that level. My Stimpy doesn't seem to mind that her litter box holds 20#. I use a 5gal. pail and a wire waste basket suspended to sift it out. Take a minute or so. Try it. Hope this helps. To: cat_art, you have to catch her in the act or she won't understand.

Well it sounds like your male kitty may start spraying to mark his territory because the littler box isnt being really kept up with, they are really spoiled and bratty when t comes to their boxes, mine do this but luckily in the tub where I can just turn on the shower and wash it off. Best advice:

Keep a clean box, get him neutered, (about $100 for the whole operation) and try getting a spray gun with water, shoot at him whenever he looks likes hes going to use the RR in any place other than litter box, good luck, and be patient I would also try and keep clothes off the floor and close your closet doors to keep from him using it in there.

My spayed female cat pees in one spot of the dining room. I tried all the products to clean it up, not to mention that I bought a carpet cleaning machine and go over that spot regularly. I even tried punishing her with a light spank on the hip, which I don't recommend because she had no idea why I was doing that and she just avoided me for a while. Still, she won't stop. The room is now her toilet, filling the house with a faint urine smell. I am officially the smelly cat lady I never wanted to be! Well, I have one more trick up my sleeve. I bought a patch of carpet and underpadding and some special paint that covers smells. As soon as I stop procrastinating I am going to remove the carpet and pad and paint, then put new one on top. The previous owners of the house had a dog, so that may be why she is doing it. No matter how much I clean, she smells an intruding animal. That's my theory, wish me luck.

Cats are very particular about their litterbox. If it's too dirty, too small, in a loud area of the house, etc, they will not use it. Sounds like you know what the deal is, keeping the litter level high, so that's a good thing!

You can also try getting a box with a lid on it. So if he's standing in the box and aiming outside the box, now it'll just hit the sides or the lid.

First of all how old is the cat? all male cats start to spray around six months old if they are not fixed by then there is a possiblity that it will not stop when you do fix him. (Don't be fooled female cats spray too) Also are you sure he is peeing on the floor or is he spraying?watch him if he puts his tail up and sort of shakes it then he is spraying and that will be a very hard thing to break. I suggest calling the vet to see what their advice is too.

well lets see, I know, keep the litter box half full and clean it a couple of times a day, problem solved.

he's probably spraying because he thinks he's gonna get some cute kitty to come around!!! You need to have him fixed. It will most likely fix it!
