The only thing you need to be careful of is weight training. Kids under 16 should not start training with weights as it will hurt the bodies natural groth rate and muscular formation.

No martial art will cause this to happen. They will infact help kids bodies develop faster and stronger as well as their minds.

I would suggest Judo rather than a striking art or Jujitsu as striking arts are better to start in the teen years. And Jujitsu teaches submissions right off the bat so not safe your kids.

Judo is one of the bes arts for children as it is geared towards age and skill level. A person under 14 will not be taught chokes or arm locks but will learn all the throws and hold downs (pinning techniques) There is alot of room for growth in Judo and as it is an Olympic sport there is alot of places to go as far a competition as well. It is weel rounded and great for self defence.

only stunt their ability to actually defend themselves... like if you have them take taekwondo for example....

nothing will stop their growth but time.
