They usuall sleep 3/4 of the night and lay in bed wide awake. They usually sleep for an hour or two at naptime. So about 11 to 12 hours is normal for a three year old.
My aunt is baby sitting five kids and my mother works at a monisary school( a school for ages 1 month to 4 years old.)

It depends on what time you lay your granddaughter down at night. Let say you lay her down about 8:00 she will probably wake up in the early hours in the morning feeling energized. If you let her take an hour to two hour nap during the day let say between 12 noon to about about 2 this will let her catch up on sleep as well. Maybe the reason why she gets up late is because she is not getting enough sleep or she turns in late during the night hours. Naps are usually good for children around this age.

For nap time, i give a 3 yr old about 1 hr. For bed, if they are really tired, i put them to bed at 7. If not 8. They will usually sleep til 6, 7 or even 8. If they are staying up to late, like til 9 or so, then they will sleep later.

Toddlers sleep between 10 and 13 hours a day. Of course some children might sleep more, some less.
Some kids can go to bed at 8 pm. and are raring to go at 6 or 7 in the morning. Others, however, can go to bed at 8 pm. and will sleep until 9 or 10 in the morning.
Everyone's sleep habits are different :-)

Jump for joy! Kids sleeping patterns vary tremendously. If she takes a nap, even a short one, she's sleeping just the right amount for her. If she seems grouchy and doesn't nap during the day, perhaps she should be roused earlier.
