Now I am in Australia so I don't understand the fine details of such, but I will try and answer of what I do understand. For a first reason there probably is so many of them.
But most importantly I think that it is strange that they would cost so much. First of all if you caught them(and you must have caught them as they are in prison) then you have stopped their activity of illegal immigration. Now most of them would be plain simple illegal immigrants and/or tourist who have overstayed their visas. Either way they have broken the law. If it is an illegal act they are committing and the act they are committing is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, then surely the logical thing to would be to send them home pronto. I can not see why the American taxpayer should be burdened with the expense of people breaking the law who are not citizens of the United States. They have enough expense paying for criminals who are citizens of the United States. Especially when many of them come from countries who not only give tacit approval of such , but also recieve millions of aid from the very same United States. At least the United States should make these recievers of aid take a positive and active hand in policing the activity.
The reason why the American government is doing this patsy patsy is it is giving in to all the loud, though minority, pressure and loby groups, whoes interest does not lay in your country's best interests. These people go on bluff and it is high time your country's government woke up to itself and got the nerve to do what is in the best interests of your country. Regulate and clamp down on the obvious misuse of America's traditional good neighbor policy regarding immigration. For centuries there have been immigrants who have obeyed the rules and done things right and earnt the right to come and be in your country. What is happening now is a slap in the face for generations of law abiding, loyal, hard working and honest migrants. They and your country deserve better.
Also there are employers who are taking advantage of this in employing illegals. They must be stopped as this disadvantages the American worker. The same workers have fought for your country, are fighting and would in the future fight in wars. They deserve better. In Australia we had tons of influx of boat people. People who jumped the queu and ignored going to countries on the way to Australia and closer which had the same faith and/or culture. They sought to take advantage of our good nature. Although our prime minister's, John Howard, solution is far from perfect it does do something to redress this. Since then there has been a marked decrease in the number of these people jumping the queu.
So I say this to your nation. Have enough respect for yourselves, your children, future generations, the masses of migrants who did it the right way and stayed and built up your country and for all of justice to do the right thing and whilst you welcome genuine and law abiding migrants, have the guts and vision to act against people who are after all, basically, law breakers with no respect for your nation. And many many of these people have no respect for and no intention of respecting your great traditions. For either your traditions are worth preserving, you nation and your people worth preserving- or they are not.

Because we the people are allowing them to. We should put an end to it by kicking out all the Senators and start fresh with the people we want in office.
We need our police to go around and check every one of them, but they don't have the power to do it.
Also there is barely any consequence for people helping them out. Businesses need to be charged $5000 dollars every time they don't do a proper identity check, and verify S.S. numbers. If they hire an illegal then $10,000.00 fine.

Willing to bet that it doesn't come close to the amount we spend on citizen teenagers busted for pot!

Not into that life but have had opportunity to go to State Prisons as a visitor and they look like High Schools lunch rooms.

We have incarcerated so many kids for victimless crime in the name of the drug war, we're (U.S.) starting to look stupid. Not to mention, we are creating our own bad guys....

Illegals should be in our jail if they broke the law, deported if they are honest and caught.

First, reading a tabloid for your news will leave you with a lot of silly questions. WordNetDaily is a tabloid, not a news site. They aren't interested in truth or veracity, only as much outrage as they can generate.

look up the stats yourself and see what they really are.

Because they are here. If we deported them they would have to commit their crimes elsewhere. Ah...but this is the land of opportunity, right? All kinds of opportunities. And to all the idjits that say citizens commit crimes too---they are ours to deal with. We can't afford to feed, medicate, or incarcerate people who aren't supposed to be here.

Easy answer. Because Americans do not want to work for peanuts in the fields and do cheap labor. One side effect is we like to pay low prices on vegetable and stuff. Have you ever thought of what the price would be if we ever could magically get rid of illegals.
