Either ask your doctor for a referral or go private.

To find a private counsellor, have a look on the British Associate for Counselling and Physcotherapy website at: http://www.bacp.co.uk/

Unfortunately, your g.p. may not offer a referral.
..it all boils down to a question of economics: .. most g.p. surgery`s are "funded" nowadays, which means that they have an allocated budget to work with. it is by far more economical for a g.p. to put you on a course of medication, rather than send you for a costly course of therapy. I`m hoping this may not be the case for you but, explore all your options well.

Your gp will put you on a course of seroxat! Shite stuff. Only when that doesn't work will he/she send you for councelling.
This usually takes about a year in which time you've either got so depressed that you can't be bothered going to the doc's any more or had a real crisis.

If you can afford it, pay for it yourself!
