I know this sounds dumb, but I got a food steamer for Christmas and I'm not really sure what to do with it. I would love to steam veggies and fish and the like in it, but I don't exactly know how. There are general guidlines in the manual, but what I really want is a steamed foods cookbook. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Steamers are trial and error, mostly. Especially with grains. Just follow the guidelines and add whatever seasonings you normally like to use. There's no real cooking or chemistry involved. Steaming meats takes alot longer than baking or broiling them, so I'd advise against that. Fish is done when it flakes easily, there's no specific time. It depends on how thick the fish is and how hot your steamer gets. Fish takes about 15-20 minutes in my steamer usuaully, depending on how often I open it to season or whatever. If you absolutely absolutely have to have a cookbook, try barnesandnoble.com, they have a good assortment of cookbooks.

lol my mum got a steamer as well.
get a saucepan put a little amount of water in it. heat the water on gas and put the steamer in (it should have little holes in) and put the vegetables in it. (so the vegetables are in water and cooking in it)
it takes about 20mins.

hope it makes sense
