On Burns nite Haggis is more popular than Xmas pudding on xmas day. The scottish supermarkets and butchers shops are full of them and the shelves clear. I expect your english! Well so am I and I live in Scotland, dont knock it till youve tried it. Its lovely, especially the well spiced ones. Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. Supose you are going to ask what a neep is now. - Its a Turnip.

What goes into Haggis (Lungs, Heart and other offal) goes into sausages elsewhere. For gods sake, its only a large spiced sausage. It tastes mostly of the herbs and spices.

Now if you want something a little more off tasting, try andouilette sausages from France- made from intestines and quite identifiably so:).

it might not look the most appetising dish in the world but well-made haggis is just brilliant. MacSween do a great haggis and a veggie version too which is just as nice.

it's a hearty dish full of energy and it used to be what the highland folk ate when they couldn't afford to waste anything. peasant food. a bit like black pudding or meatloaf. it's since been refined (like meatloaf & black pudding) and now is made from nicer ingredients. you get types made from venison and other fancy stuff. the bulk of it is made up of oats and other cerials.

it's now traditionally eaten on Burns night (25th jan) but i and a lot of my friends eat it throughout the year. some restaurants use it as a stuffing for chicken etc and made properly it can be very nice. you do get some yukky stuff though, much like everything else.

It's tradition. And some people do eat it (at least that's what I've been told, I've never actually found one who will admit to it. Of course, I've never actually found someone who's eaten monkey poo.)
