Just like okwaho said, many teaching jobs will help pay off your student loans.

Many gov't jobs will too (state and federal, although more so federal), the Securities & Exchange Commission as well as most other departments and agencies offer some sort of financial payment towards student loans. In the SEC case, they'll pay $10k a year for up to six years that you work for them (for a total of $60k).

Congratulations on finishing college!

Don't panic. There are a lot out there have a lot more debt than 50K.

Just get a job, and pay it off bit by bit, month by month. If you can't make payments, contact the lender and make other arrangements. WHATVER YOU DO, don't be late with your payments. This will ruin your credit.

As long as you keep putting money towards it you'll be fine. This is not bad debt. Credit card debt is bad debt.

Also a friend of mine went to a debt consolidator/debt counselor called Green Path but he had more debt than just student loans.
This seems to have helped him deal with his debt.

Good Luck!!

What did you graduate with and where do you plan to work?
There are some programs in most states that if you work in certain fields and/or certain areas (low income, rural ect) that will help repay your loans.
Many of these are availiable for the health, education and even law carreers.
Run a search on google for NY student loan repayment and/or loan forgiveness.

Teachers:
Once you have taught full-time for five consecutive years in an elementary or high school that's been designated as serving children from low-income families, the Department of Education will let you cancel up to $5,000 (and in a few cases up to $17,500) in federal Stafford or direct loans. You may also qualify to have 100% of your Perkins loans forgiven if you're a full-time teacher of low-income students or are in a field where teachers are scarce
