I used to remember that one has to wait for 5-yr after obtaining green card before filing for US Citizenship. But a friend of mine told me that you can apply for US Citizenship through naturalization process at the 18th month after you've been granted with green card.
According to USCIS website, however, it looks like you have to wait for at least 30months before filing for US Citizenship....
confused...would appreciate your advice.

I would go by what it says on the USCIS website instead of what your friend says.

But here is a page that says exceptions to the rule and special cases. I didn't see anything there about 18 months, but maybe I missed it. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=142696981298d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=d6f4194d3e88d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD

No, he CANNOT 'cancel' your green card. You can divorce him right now and there is nothing he can do. You are a permanent resident. You can keep renewing your card before it expires every 10 years and YOU DO NOT NEED HIM to do that. You can also apply for citizenship after the 10 years.

Mz Bee is right. The standard requirement is 5 years, but it can be 3 years if you are married to a USC.
