It depends on the person. Had I had children when I was younger, I know that I would have been selfish and not as good a mother as I am now - 39 with a three year old. I am more patient, educated and financially stable than I was when I was 20.

That said, I have a dear friend who had children young and enjoyed being young with her children and tells me I am nuts for having a preschooler while her kids are getting out of college and she is enjoying time with just her and her husband. I remind her that I traveled the world first while I was young and enjoyed it immensely :-) We also took a dream vacation I knew would not come for quite a while after we had children, so we opted to do that first.

I mention both cases to say it is clearly an individual choice and depends on what is right for the mom and the dad. There is seldom a 'perfect' time in your life to have kids, as there is always something that pulls you financially, emotionally or physically in other directions. It is a matter of making an extremely personal decision, regardless of what others think (I know my mom was ready for grandchildren 15 years before I decided to have a child!). There are always risks for both mother and child and the would-be parents need to weigh the options carefully and choose for themselves.

There are all kinds of risks of having a baby too young or too old. Very young mothers are prone to having babies with abdominal defects such as being born with their organs/intestines on the outside of their body. Older mothers have a higher risk of having babies with Downs Syndrome. Then there is just the general risk any parent faces.
The best time to have a baby is when you are in a stable relationship and have the financial ability to do so.

A womans body experiences least pain in labour when she is younger and most when she is older.Plus its better for the babies that they have a younger mother ,for both health reasons and also for the mother as a healthier mother tends to tend better .

Whew, that sounds like tongue twister now!!! lol

Depends on the person. Personally, I love being 21 with 2 toddlers.

Younger but not a teenager. I had my first son at 20 and I think it was perfect. You have more energy to take care of them, play, work..... Just my opinion nothing against people who have babies in their forties.

Younger. The older you get, the more risks there are.

I would say over 25... just because it gives you time to have fun and get thru college so you can afford children!

But to each their own... Different strokes for different folks.
