Think of the stores you both already shop at, What do you need most? What do you want?
When I got married I registered at Target and Dillard's....I noticed that after wards most of our gifts came from Target b/c it was more affordable to everyone, so therefore they were also able to get more of what we wanted and/or needed. so keep that in mind as well. If you register at the more high priced places, people will not be so inclined to get you gifts if they are on a tight budget

Well that depends on where you live. When I got married I registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target.
Make sure that you register for items of all price ranges.
The nice things bout registerys is that you can d it all online these days. All you have to do is go to the web sites!

It's a good idea to register as soon as you can. You can almost always add items later, and it's also one less thing to do closer to the date. Plus, if anyone wants to throw you a shower, it makes things that much easier for everyone.
I'm getting married in October, and am planning on registering at Sears and Canadian Tire. A lot of places offer registries now though - many that you might not even think of. I know people who have registered at Ikea, Linens 'n' Things, Walmart, and even with their photographer (guests could contact her directly and contribute towards the photos).
Anywhere that you like to shop, just ask if they have a registry. It's good to choose at least one chain store, so that people from other areas can purchase gifts there. Things to ask about include whether the registry is available online or just in the store, whether it's available at all stores (sometimes a registry is only with that specific store), and what sort of completion program they have. (Some stores allow you to buy items on your registry that weren't purchased for you at the lowest sale price for that item within the last 12 months.)
Good luck, and congratulations!

You should be registered 3 to 4 months before your wedding date. Me and my husband just got married back in July. We registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things and several other of our favorite department stores. It depends on what you and your husband needs for your house/apartment to know where to register. I also made sure I registered at stores that were reasonable with their prices for those who can't afford the high price stores. Congrats on your marriage!!!

usually it's a good idea to register at a couple different stores, so your guests can buy gifts according to their financial status (for example, the more wealthy and generous guests can purchase your fine china at Macy's, and the guests who are on a tight budget can get your kitchen doo-dads at Bed, Bath, & Beyond). Don't register for the same things at each place, but be sure to include a range of items overall, so your guests can choose.
Register for stuff you need and will use... if you already have everything and don't need much more, consider a charity registry.
Popular places to register include Macy's, BedBath&Beyond, Target, Crate&Barrel, etc.
congrats!

We registered at Mikasa, Target (where we got almost everything we asked for) Crate and Barrel, Pier One, and Sears. And dont be afraid to ask for anything kind of pricey. This is one of those occasions people will actually buy you the stuff you asked for! I was so surprised that I actually got some of the things I registered for. They are really just wish lists so ask for anything you want!

I registered at the "normal" places (Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macy's, Dillards, Neimans, Target, etc.) but I know a lot of people who register at non-traditional places (ie. REI, pet shelters, hunting stores, etc.)

Sears is a good place to register....you can take care of everything there. Appliances, towels, bedding, cookware, etc. and there are Sears stores everywhere and their website is easy to use. I registered at Pier 1 as well.
Congratulations and best wishes!!!!
