I want to make a yeast dough coffee cake tomorrow morning, can I make the dough tonight? If so, does it need to rise before I store it in the refrigerator? Help, quick!

No. You need to let it warm and rise in the morning.

You can make the dough today and place it in your fridge to use tomorrow. Cold temperatures retard the speed at which the yeast "eats" the natural sugars in flour. It will still ferment in the fridge but at a much much slower rate. I would pull it out of the fridge well before you bake it tomorrow and allow it to rise some more otherwise you will have a pretty dense coffe cake.

Yes, you can make it as soon as you like but don't put it in the fridge. Just cover the dough with a dish cloth and leave it in a warm (draught free) place for at least 30 mins. to rise
