Because Abraham was human and he made mistakes. Everything in the Bible is true and it's instruction is always right, but not everything that people in the Bible do is right. King David slept with Uriah's wife and yet God called David a "man after His own heart." This just means that God's people make mistakes too, but then they get ask for forgiveness and move on.

Because he was human. He was nervous they'd kill him and take her.He was also human when he allowed Sarah to talk him into getting Hagar pregnant. But where he really shined was when he took Isaac up on the mount and told his servants,"We will go up to sacrifice and WE will come back".He had the faith to know that (because God promised to make Isaac a great nation)even if God allowed him to kill his son somehow God would resurrect him or not allow him to go through with it(which is what happened)....".and Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness"
The more Abraham got to know God the more he trusted HIM.As is the case with Jacob(he did not trust God until after the wrestling match)andmany others including us today.

She was actually his niece...but at that time, using 'sister' to describe the relationship was common.

Abraham had absolute trust in God, but did not know everything God had planned. Abraham had no trust vis-a-vis the Egyptians. Therefore, he was just covering all his bases as far as he could tell.

Because Abraham was still flesh & Blood, As was Jesus, He ask his Father for this cup to pass from him, what did that in Jesus, He was a man, But a perfect sinless man, Then Jesus, with God in him knew that he came to die for all of our sins, Yielded up the Ghost

Because he was still human. And like most of us he got scared. We also believe that God is all-powerful, but sometimes we lean to our own understanding. Trying to handle thing our selves and just like Abram we find our selves in a world of trouble. So thank God for grace and mercy. Be blessed.

It's a great story. It shows that even Abraham who God counted as righteous because of His faith had times in His life where his faith was lacking... Jim

Unlike some people, he did not ask GOD for help with small details of his life. He asked for those things that he really wanted and needed not for the small matters. Have a great day!

Because Abraham screwed up! Just like I have done and many others before me...

Just because he was Abraham did not make him immune to mistakes!
