I know you said you don't want to hear about going to the vet because you can't afford it. In this case it is vital you work out a plan with a vet to treat your dog. I stress the word "VITAL".

It sounds to me as if your dog is suffering from bloat. Bloat is the second leading killer of dogs apart from cancer. It is very serious, a dog can die in under an hour in it's most severe form. Your dog will certainly die if it is not treated and it will die a horrible death. I am not saying this to scare you, I am telling you this because it is fact.

The symptoms you describe certainly sound like bloat or its proper name of "Gastric Dilation-Volvulous. Volvulous means twisting, meaning your dog has a twisted bowel. When I read that your dog is drinking excessively along with a bloated belly is what convinced me I had to respond. Excessive drinking and the bloated apperance are two of main symptoms and also the whining. Please, please read the link I am posting for you for further information. You have to work out a plan with your vet to pay for a visit, there is no two ways about it, if you want to save your dog.

If you can't afford to take her to the vet, you shouldn't own her! She is in obvious distress and could have any one of a number of problems.

Did she finish the full round of vaccinations as a puppy? If not, she could be suffering from a disease.

She may also have internal parasites, although these are usually associated with an increase in appetite, if they have become extremely bad, they be cause belly bloating and trouble eating.

Alternately, she may have some trouble with her internal organs. A lot of times, intestines can become blocked or twisted and cause excruciating pain and ultimately death if not treated promptly. This would explain your dog's bloating, whining, and refusal to eat. Has she been having regular bowel movements?

Please, find some way to get her treated, or find someone who can and give her to them. Your dog is in obvious pain and you not taking her for treatment is cruel and could end up in her dying a very painful death.

And so you know, when people recommend animals go to the vet, a lot of the time, it's because they DO know what they are talking about and the animal needs professional treatment. If you had a child with the same problem, you'd rush it into the emergency room and not think twice about it. You wouldn't ask people for home remedies and hope that the kid didn't die!

A condition like you describe is in fact called "bloat," and it's a serious digestive system problem which can be FATAL to dogs. I'm not going to lecture you about going to the vet because I see others have already said what needs to be said and they are right. If you cannot afford veterinary care, please start calling rescues and/or shelters til you find one that will allow you to sign over ownership of the dog so they can properly care for it.

EDIT: I see you posted "additional details," wondering where you can get a pill for your dog. Those generally come from VETERINARIANS, too. And you're not going to know, anyway, if a pill will solve the problem until your dog sees a vet. I feel sorry for your dog. She needs your help and you seem reluctant to provide that help.

Right now just keep a very close eye on your doggie. It could be anything like gas or the like. But, beware if the dog starts to stop eating all together, throw up and urinate blood. To see if this is happening, push on the dog's stomach where it is big and if he appears to be in pain or throws up then you might have a problem. This happened to my dog and his bladder was about ten times the normal size due to being clogged with bladder stones. He now just has to have special dog food (G/D Hill's Prescription Science Diet).
But, if it is none of the above, I would see if it went away, and if not investigate friends who know vets personally. If you have a friend who has a regular vet, have them call and ask about your dog's symptoms.

Sounds like a twisted bowel. Nothing you can do at home for that. NOTHING AT ALL. If you don't get her help, she will literally explode. I've seen it happen when irresponsible people have pets. That wasn't directed at you, simply stating a fact. If you can't afford to help her, you need to make the right choice and allow the SPCA to have her so they can help her. You don't have the right to not help her.

Edit: Oh so the beating heart that is your dog isn't worth as much as the beating heart that is your daughter? How can you distinguish? Both have feelings, both can hurt, be happy/sad/feel love. Both have red blood. If you'd had your dog a year and your daughter only 2 months would the situation be reversed? You have insurance for yourself and daughter, why not for your dog? You need to change your way of thinking and soon.

She probably ate some kind of small animal. But if you really care about your dog, you will take her to the vet. If you can't afford her, you should give her away. The responsibility of having a dog is no less than that of having a child. What if it was your child crying with a huge, bloated stomach and an unquenchable thirst. Would you really ask for advice on Yahoo answers? Dogs are expensive. God, people who dont realize this make me so mad.

Your dog needs a vet & if you cant afford it,,you shouldnt have a dog.Not eating is a serious sign of illness. You must come up with the cash to take the dog for help.Borrow if you must or ask a vet to bill you.You took responcibility for this pet.And ,,it should not be left alone outside all the time.Bring the dog in the house.

I'm sorry to say this, but your dog does need to go the the vet. Call ahead and work out a payment plan, but it you want this dog to live, and I think that this really is a possibility, get the dog to the vet.

You should not own a dog if you cannot afford to take it to the vet. I would recommend giving the dog to a good home where they are responsible enough to only take in animals they can afford to care for. Wouldn't you want to see a doctor if you had parasites crawling in your belly and coming out in your poop?!?!
