Oh, please. The entire time I've been in school the only time any of them tried to teach a sermon was the nut job christian professor I had. The people brainwashing kids are the christians not the other way around.
Like someone else said, you should ask yourself why the people with the most education are usually atheists.

The more you are educated, the more likely you are to be an atheist, especially if you are in the sciences. Top tier scientists are 90% atheists meaning that you are going to have a problem finding a really good research scientist who isn't.
I really never had a professor push an atheist agenda at me and in fact I only knew for sure that one was one. And that was in a Philosophy class where we discussed such things. I heard the same guy argue points from all sides and he only told us what he really thought the last class. It wasn't brainwashing at all, they just forced us to think and question, which does have the effect of pushing you that way.

There are more atheist professors than ever because critical thinking and reasoning skills are important to have as a professor. We've finally thrown off the thousands of years of religious domination of education, and in most universities are actually teaching science and reason instead of superstition and nonsense.
Today's students are still brainwashed, though, because we allow their parents and pastors to fill their heads with creationist, IDiotic, superstitious, mythical drivel before the university level. The hope is that 4 years is enough to rid them of that nonsense -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But we rational people keep trying...:)

They aren't brainwashed. You have one institution teaching modern fact, and another institution teaching an ancient religion. Tell me that doesn't get confusing!
As a person learns more analytical skills and begins to think critically, they begin to crave more information- thus, they question. A work of testimonial does not stand up to physical evidence logically- SO, I can understand why many professors are atheists. They question, and they don't accept popular thought as fact until they receive confirmation through investigation. Sometimes, faith alone isn't enough.

I'd like you to think for a moment about your question...
Why ARE so many professors atheists?
I think you need to consider the distinct possibility that maybe it's because people who are educated tend to see through religion.
Turn the brainwashed comment around on yourself. Ask yourself... "just how educated am I, anyway?"
Do you think you're capable of teaching college level students? If not, why don't you go get a little more education yourself. You may be surprised what you find.

Higher-educated people are less likely to believe in an imaginary being (god) than those who are less educated.
I don't think less educated people are not as smart, they just haven't had the education necessary to form a more complete world view that doesn't include god.
-- just an aside -- this is why Mormons make their kids go on missions when they turn 18. It keeps them from going to college right away, and keeps the mind-control going...

I live in a university town and know or know of a lot of professors. Out of the many I know or know of, only one is a secular humanist. The rest are either Chirstian, Jewish, or Islam. Also, unless the student is in a religion or philosophy course, it's not likely they're going to be hearing a lot about religion.

How does one get brainwashed by an atheist? Seriously. Unless you mean cleaning the brain out of superstition.

Students are NOT brainwashed. They are taught to hone their critical thinking. Then they are FREE to make their own informed decisions. Besides, where are your stats. regarding the theism/atheism issue on uni. profs.? Your question is poorly constructed!
