Isn't there a more appropriate place to humiliate yourself rather than in a category set aside for people who have real and sincere questions regarding religion and their faith? If you're as smart as you think you portray yourself, find the right place in YA for your stupidity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset, just curious. This is a serious category and people take it very lightly.

Y'know... there really isn't a more appropriate place. And I'm not saying that to agree with them! I believe that this is the place for sincere and heartfelt spiritual questions.
However, there are a large number of people who want to take away from religion and spirituality. So they come here in an attempt to do so.
I would like for YA to create a specific category for "Stupid, Annoying, and Hateful Questions" but I don't think they will... and if they did, no one would post there (ah, heck... it's the internet... a lot of people would post there).
Religion and Spirituality has, and always will have, a giant "target" painted on it by people who view it as a threat. So they come here...

There are a wide variety of attitudes, abilities, opinions, and needs among Internet users. Some people use the anonymity as a chance to vent their hatred of a particular group. Some like to make what they think are witty or sarcastic comments.
Others may have a sincere and legitimate question, but through no fault of their own, they lack the skills to formulate it in an effective way. And some people have intelligent, well thought out questions that beg for a quality response.
I try to concentrate on the latter two groups and not pay much attention to the others. Those are the people that I may be able to help, and that's the reason I participate in Yahoo Answers in the first place.

You must understand that Satan is the ruler of this world, so he has all his slaves slaving for him, particularly in the Internet. 1 John 5:19. Rev. 12:9 2 Corinthians 11:14. Also, there are many people that call themselves Christians, but they lack the proper Bible knowledge and do more harm than good when answering these demonized persons that post Satan's thoughts here. The best thing to do is to turn them in for abuse because they are indeed working for Satan and he has no right to be here. When you answer them, unless you give them an appropriate answer, you are entertaining them. Let the word of God answer them; Prov. 26:1-"Like snow in the summer and like rain in harvest time, so glory is not fitting for the stupid one." Prov. 26:3-"A whip is for the horse, a bridle is for the ***, and the rod is for the back of stupid people." Prov. 26: 5-" Answer someone stupid according to his foolishness, that he may not become someone wise in his own eyes." Prov. 18:2-"Anyone stupid finds no delight in discernment, except that his heart should uncover itself.......KECK

I don't think the Questions are dumb, I think that today most of the people have never been close to religion and they are searching for answers, and trying to find out what they can where they can.
Except for the guy who says stupid things like rednecks tied me to the barn door! I think this gut is just bored with nothing else to do except sit around and waste time and computer space

Perhaps that is the level of evolution??? Even you lost your senses on some unknown person by getting upset. Why allow this to upset you, there are so many giving good answers, take what you want and leave the rest. Give time for growth, growth is a long process, and life is not an emergency.

The first part of the question is easy to answer (and appropriate):
When it comes to religious dogma, what is dumb to one person is often considered inspired by another.
The second part sounds like a rant and since I don't know who you are referring to or what they said I can't answer other than to suggest that was a "dumb statement". If the shoe fits ........

Because it's the one place they're guaranteed to get a rise out of *someone*, given that many people take religion quite seriously.

The problem is that with churches not teaching much more than Bible stories mixed with pagan myths, the people don't really know that their questions are dumb. Consider the repeated questions about the Earth being 6000 years old. No Bible says that, but the Churches don't think it important to teach otherwise.

Well, right off people who believe ancient superstitions about magical sky-fairies without any evidence of any kind can't be the sharpest tools in the shed, you know? Religion isn't a philosophy that requires or even appreciates critical thinking skills -- in most religions critical thinking is frowned upon.
So given the mindset (or lack thereof) it takes to be in a religion in the first place, I wouldn't expect us to see well-crafted debate, eloquent expositions on the human condition, or knowledge of science from that crowd. And we don't :)

I think a lot people use the anonymity of this forum to ask the silly questions that they always wanted to ask, but didn't want to due to the reactions they would get.
Personally, they don't bother me. In fact, I even get a few laughs out of some of them.
