For those who have been on a cruise, does the ship security inspect luggage throughly as you board ship, like at an airport security? If I have in my possession sodas or other food, will it be thrown out or can I get away with it if it is hidden well in luggage? How closely do they inspect one's luggage/purse?

Your luggage will be inspected just like it would at the airport. I don't know about bringing food on board. As for the sodas, we always bring along a case of water. Depending on where we are leaving from, we buy our water and sodas at a local store near the port. They don't allow you to bring liquor on board, but if it is packed very carefully in your luggage can be brought on without being noticed.

Your checked luggaege goes through the same type scanning that the airport does (they say) but you cna pack most anything you want, like nuts or chips for snacks. Don't try to carry on bottles of liquor or wine because they do run every carry on through the same scanner that the sirlines use. If you want to carry some liquor on , buy some half pint or pint bottles, or minis and pack it in your luggage with your clothes and /or toiletries. I regularly carry on soft drinks and bottled water and have had no questions asked. I have also carried on nuts and chips and even boughtn them in port stops. The security folks are mainly looking to keep liquor off the ship so you buy theirs.

Since they arent allowing liquids you can't take sodas/alcohol on the plane as a carry on. As for in your luggage if you have it wrapped good to prevent spills/leakage, you can pack them. They may scan and openly search your luggage, but you can take them.

as for the cruise, they say you cannot take food, and I don't know anyone who does since you have all you can eat on the ship. I had snacks in my carryon bag for my plane flight and it wasnt taken from me when I got on the ship or off.

when you check off the boat you can take your luggage, but customs may search your luggage. Other wise if you put your luggage out as requested, they take them thru customs that night and your luggage is waiting for you in the luggage area off the ship. Bonvoyage

They inspect it thourghly now. I have done several cruises and we used to bring our own wine, but now they check it all and make you leave it! It's where they get more money for what they sell. I like certain wine and the prices of that wine on board will knock you over. A bottle of Ferrari Corrono Cabirnet was like $120 a bottle and I get it for $35. Be prepared to pay!
