When my other half is having a go at me I normally smile, nod and continue to watch the tv. This only infuriates her. If I shout back I am told to shut up. Perhaps I should go to the bedroom, get her to phone me so I can nod, smile and watch tv without her knowing. Would this work?

You know it is infuriating when you feel that you can get through to someone.
She may laugh or smile at the way you deal with her fits of anger at times, but it must also hurt.
You know why?
Because, she must think that
1) you are not taking her seriously.
2) She's not important enough to you.
3) She'll end up saying something to hurt you so that you react.

I totally understand, now, after being divorced, that you men can only deal with so much at a time.
No long chat, not the same thing again...
But, at least give her a good 10 minutes of your time once a week to pay careful attention to vant her anger or whatever she's not happy with.
You'll see, the shouting will stop, and you won't have to go hide elsewhere.
Believe me, it may look funny to you now, but this is reason enough for a woman to consider separation and all. Being ignored is painful, humiliating and frustrating.
Watch it!x

Hi this gets on my nerves as well because i think its rude, and i bet when your other half does it to you you get annoyed to. Instead of ignoring her my dont you just talk to her because the more you smile and nod which is so rude when a woman is trying to tell you something the more she will get annoyed, when you ccan just agree with her and sort it out then you wont have to watch tv in the other room.

I was with this guy for 2 years but he just wouldn't argue and so every time one was boiling he'd just say im sorry i love you and that was that: How infuriating!

Arguments spice things up and get everything out in the open! If you just ignore a problem it doesn't just go away... and think of the make up sex! Soooo good!

I think this is very sad.I would never tell them to shut up.My husband does his things and I do mine or we have often watch diff rent shows on 2 TVs.What the fighting is I don't know but this needs to be addressed. You cannot go on being talked to or especially humiliated in your own home or phone.Work it out and compromise or say good bye and find the love you truly deserve.Best to you
