Grizzly bear is most definitely faster than man. What I usually do when hiking, or camping in an area inhabited by grizzly Bear's is take along one or two people that I can outrun, and I ALWAYS wear foot wear with which I can haul my freight lively!

Grizzly Bear. By a long shot. You can't outrun a bear. And frankly, I don't think putting yourself in a situation where you have to consider this is a bad idea.

Also, if a grizzly is charging, unless you have a LOT of firepower on your side, you're pretty much up a creek without a paddle. I've seen charging bears that were shot over 25 times before they came to a halt.

Grizzly Bears have been known to run 1/2 mile with their heart shot out, which do you think will win?

Most adult bears are much faster and can climb any full sized tree or bend over the smaller ones!
I would recommend always hiking with a token Lib you can sacrifice!
They will try to protect the Bear from YOU!!!

Reminds me of the old joke.....

Two guys running through the woods being chased by a grizzly.

As they run one man keeps trying to take off his shoes.

The first guy says "do you think running barefoot will help you out run the bear?"

The second guy replies "I don't have to out run that bear. All I have to do is out run you".

Grizzly Bear Top Speed (Ground): 35 mph
I know that has me beat!

Never run up hill if you are chased by a grizzly or any other bear because they can beat you. Survivors tell us to run down hill, or better yet, stay up wind and away from them. After all, you're the trespasser.
